PHOENIX (AP)—Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin(notes) is in the process of firing his agent Drew Rosenhaus.

Boldin, in a long contract dispute with the team, informed the NFL Players Association in a letter that he intended to replace the agent. The players association says it received the letter on Friday, so with the required five-day waiting period, Boldin can sign with a new agent on Thursday.

Rosenhaus issued a statement saying he has “great respect” for Boldin.

“I’m hopeful we can work things out and he will return to the Rosenhaus Sports family in the near future,” Rosenhaus said.

Boldin, who has two years left on his contract with the Cardinals, is upset with the team’s management over what he says was a failed promise for a new deal last offseason. He has asked for a trade. The Cardinals said they would listen to offers but on draft day said no team had proposed a deal that could be seriously considered.

The three-time Pro Bowl receiver sat out minicamp with what he said was a sore hamstring. He has not participated in any of the Cardinals’ voluntary workouts the last two weeks.

Quarterback Kurt Warner(notes) has been outspoken in his desire to get Boldin back with the team.

“Maybe Anquan felt that there was a sticking point there and that this is going to free some things up and allow them to have a different approach coming forward and work better with the Cardinals,” Warner said after the workout on Tuesday. “I really don’t know. I don’t want to speculate on the reasons behind it all but I think I’ve had hope from day one that they can get something done.”

Boldin has been represented by Rosenhaus since being drafted out of Florida State in the second round by Arizona in 2003. He signed a four-year, $22.75 million extension with Arizona in August of 2006, a deal that keeps him under contract through the 2010 campaign. He has a base salary of about $2.75 million next season and $3 million in 2010.

Linebacker Karlos Dansby(notes), who also has an unsettled contract situation, said for Boldin to part from an agent who has represented him his entire career is “huge for him.”

“Hopefully the ball will get bouncing and hopefully he’ll be back out here on the field and be comfortable that his situation will get handled,” Dansby said.

The Cardinals had no comment.

General manager Rod Graves has said the team wants to re-sign the receiver, but has two other players—Dansby and safety Adrian Wilson(notes)—it wants to deal with first.

Dansby has been given the franchise tag for the second year in a row and Wilson has one year remaining on his contract.

Boldin’s fellow Pro Bowl wideout in Arizona, Larry Fitzgerald(notes), signed a four-year, $40 million contract, with $30 million guaranteed, before last season.

Boldin, who says Fitzgerald deserved every penny, said he is underpaid in the current market. At the start of training camp last season, he said he would never re-sign with the Cardinals.

But with the team holding him under contract for two years, his options are limited.

to be honest, i don't care who Anquan plays for. i just want to see an elite player like that get paid what he's worth. and he's worth more then what the Cards are giving him. if a player puts up outstanding numbers, pay him some outstanding numbers. quit dicking around or you might lose one of your best weapons.

Even in a thread about Boldin you gotta talk shit on the Raiders?

LOL

Honor the contract you already have and play some damn football!
Football is a business, not just a sport. Players gotta handle the business side too...

It was all good when he signed the contract but since he's not the main dude on the squad anymore and he's playing 2nd fiddle to Fitz, he wants to start bitchin.
Put yourself in his position. If WR putting up worse numbers than him are getting cashed the fuck out, don't you think you'd deserve to also? It's a business.

I'd be blessed to be in the NFL making over a million dollars playing a game I love more then life itself instead of sitting behind this damn desk at this bullshit job hoping my supervisor don't catch me online. Thats just me tho.

If he thought he was gonna evolve into one of the best receivers in the game, he shouldn't have signed his last contract. I bet at the time he signed it, he thought he was lucky as hell. He's still making $3 million a year. He oughta just STFU, play out his contract, and get a new one.

He's not a QB or a D Lineman. He's a receiver. He gets probably 8 touches a game. And he's not even the best receiver on his team. No way the Cards are gonna overpay two receivers, and have no money left for the other 20 major positions on the field. They tried to trade him, and nobody was giving any good offers. He needs to go play football and stay at a consistent level for the next year, and then bank it with some other team.

Boldin's #'s: rec 89, yards 1038, y/g 86.5, avg 11.7, Lng 79, Yac 6.7, 1stD 56, TD 11.

Fitz' #'s: rec 96, yards 1431, y/g 89.4, avg 14.9, Lng 78, Yac 4.8, 1stD 66, TD 12

pretty much the same numbers being put up and Boldin didn't even play in all 16 games. i think Boldin is a valuble player that should get rewarded at least a lil pay raise for his efforts.

players gotta look out for themselves. nfl contracts are hella fucked up. i would want every fuckin dime if i could get cuz an organization is not gonna make sure im taken care of forever and my kids too. i would have to do that.

I had a contract to work for $10.30/hr for two years. I exceeded my expectations and they had to give me a new contract or lose me to the city. I'm making $15.45 now and by August I expect $18.20

co sign, Boldin needs to take care of this shit in 2 years when his contract is up. If he keeps up his numbers i'm sure the cardnials will pay some big bucks to keep him if he doesn't carry on with his bellyaching. Breston has plenty of potential if Boldin wants to leave the team IMO
