Teenager shot in head while sitting with group

A 14-year-old boy was shot in the head Sunday night in Livingston in a confrontation with apparent gang overtones, according to Police Chief William Eldridge.
The boy was airlifted to Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock for treatment following the 9 p.m. shooting on Pinot Drive. His condition was unknown late Sunday night.
Eldridge said four to five individuals were sitting in a yard when a vehicle pulled up about a half-block away. One person got out of the car and walked up to the gathering, yelling insults before firing numerous shots.
The chief said Merced County Sheriff's Department deputies may have located the vehicle connected to the shooting in Winton.
No further details were available. The boy may have been in the wrong place at the wrong time, Eldridge said.
