if you already have a midi controller, synth or workstation bypass the jp8000 and get the jp8080. they ARE different and you can do more with the 8080 (like run an instrument through it along with some other nick nacks).

for that price (1100-1300 new or 650-650 used) its great.

have you checked out the nord

the AUGUST issue of ELECTRONIC MUSICIAN has a full blow out on 10 analog modeling synths (keep in mind that these synths are not REAL analog. the only CURRENT analog synth that i know of is the ANDROMEDA).

TOO $HORT USES A JP-8080 ON A LOT OF HIS MATERIAL.

The JP8000 is tight hands down. Roland's sounds ain't no joke man, especially if you are looking for basses and leads! I have and have made leads on a JV90 years ago that people still trip off of today (and still want to sample). I lot of the sounds that you hear in that old bay area mobb shit from the early 90's are off Roland gear. Sound-wise you can't go wrong with anything in the JV/XP/XV/JP line.

I haven't used a virus but I've heard only good things about them. Everyone is wetting their pants over the MS2000 right now too.

I agree

Roland do got the best bass and leads sounds. I got that Roland XV-5080, you get a wide variety of bass leads to choose from. This module slept on like a mothafucka. You can load XV and JV patches. Its tight shit
