Right now we have a lot of people jockeying for position in the Bay. Labels squabble in backdoor bid wars. Mixtape DJ’s are locking and loading the hottest track from the Bay. Everybody from MTV, BET and your local news station want to look at the Bay Area rappers on the rise. A lot of money and a lot of reputations are at stake.

I was here when the Bay Area first rose up in the early 1990’s. I was also here to watch it fall aroudn 1995. One of the main reasons it fell then, and might fall right now- is because of bad business.

There are a lot of self appointed, half baked "managers”, “label owners” and “CEO’s” squandering real opportunities in pursuit of the ultimate hustle. All eyes are on the Bay, but they don’t have to stay here. Out of all the groups trying to take advantage of the hype around Hyphy, only a select group will truly make that journey. Too many people are over confident on what they can do when they have no real record of accomplishment in the game. But if the Bay does not learn to get off it’s own nuts- it won’t matter who is watching.

It's a good piece and some of his points are dead on. It's always hit or miss with posting something like this in this forum, but I figured some people (like you and a few others) would appreciate it.

A very insightful and intelligent read. A lot of what he said was really on point, I don't expect all artists/producers/industry people to follow it completely but to just keep it in mind. The bay needs to get this money, a 10 year drought is too long. Good shit Adisa, always enjoy reading his shit.

Bad biz is what always held us back...I watched every fad come and go and its no different now. Some people will benefit temporarily and some will parlay int long term. Either way, you cant polish a turd. Adissa is real sharp with that shit, I feel him too.

6. Think beyond the Bay!

I been sayin this for years, but he made a good point about how thats the reason NYC fell off. He hella right though about everybody swingin they own nuts, I dont think thats just the bay though. Overall it was a good read and good direction for a young hustla like myself.

#3 is the funniest to see...not the broke part, but 1 step further. both adissa & I do an ample amount of traveling and on the rare occasion that we see an artist from the bay or label rep...they get ego checked when no one knows who they are. which leads to number 6.
