True...but B.oB just had a hot year last year. Compared to some of the othee artists he has the most mainstream exposure. He did award shows...had one of the hotest records around , rap beef etc..lol
To me, this is somewhat irrelevant to the argument that the song was a ploy to gain mainstream attention. Granted, B.o.B does have the mainstream exposure (to the point that one radio host commented that anything B.o.B. touched turned to gold). However, the song itself isn't very mainstream, it's not something you would typically expect from a "single."
If B.o.B. wasn't on this, it wouldn't be considered an attempt at the Mainstream because the song doesn't fit the "mold." This isn't Airplanes or Price Tags or anything. If Strange was attempting to catch the Mainstream with a B.o.B. appearance, they probably would've done something a little more radio/club friendly. Heck, I think OG was more of an attempt to be accepted by the "mainstream" than this song is.
That's why I feel that WWC would've been more fitting for a run at the "mainstream" if that was what they were trying to do. Sure, Am I A Psycho has B.o.B. who is currently "hot," but WWC has Yela who seems to be a pretty hot topic that last year, Busta who is an established name in the industry as well as Twista who has his moments. On top of that however, WWC would've been a little more acceptable than a song about being "psycho" with a video about serial killers. Having B.o.B. on something like that... I see more "anti-mainstream" than anything.
That all said, looks like they had a decent concept going for the video... but it was poorly executed. Just as some others have said, the video is rather boring and it goes absolutely nowhere. Seeing the beginning of the video, it felt like we may see the video transition into something more akin to the Lynch series. Where we actually see the "psycho's" do something more than walk around and taunt their victims. Heh, walking around in circles rapping, it's almost as if this was a third person view of Hit Em Up... okay, that was stupid, but still.
As for shooting a video for Strangeland... I think by going the route they did, they're starting to wisen up and actually promote their albums. It would've been better if Strangeland was held off to give 6's and 7's more time to breathe with promotion, but... baby steps. It seems smart to promote your biggest album to date instead another "rushed" collabos album. With the features on All 6's and 7's, the publicity it's gotten, how well it's already done... there may be more room for that album to grow and reach a larger audience. They still have WWC in their pocket which could definitely move some units. Meanwhile, with this collabos album specifically... I don't think there's that big of an audience to market it to, and the collabos albums generally don't recieve much promotion anyway.
