Alonzo Mourning Ends Career

• Alonzo Mourning will no longer be able to play professional basketball due to an existing medical condition, New Jersey Nets President/General Manager Rod Thorn announced Nov. 24.
  "It is with great sadness that I make this announcement," Thorn said. "Alonzo is a true champion and a very courageous athlete who attempted to defy the odds with his comeback to the NBA. Unfortunately, his medical condition will not allow him to continue his basketball career. Our thoughts and prayers are with him as he continues his fight against this disease."
  
  "I’m disappointed. He’s disappointed. We all wanted it to work out on the court," Nets guard Jason Kidd said. "In the short time he was here, I think he showed a lot of the younger guys what their job description entailed, and that’s coming to work every day.
