WTF HDnet just reported Alistair was cut. Hopefully this is just a way to get him out of his Showtime/Strikeforce contract to get him in the UFC.

DALLAS (July 29, 2011) HDNet’s “Inside MMA” breaks more shocking news concerning StrikeForce™ Heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem who “Inside MMA” has learned has received a cut letter and has been released from the promotion.
Sources close to the situation have told “Inside MMA’s” Ron Kruck that Strikeforce™ has exercised its right to eliminate the one remaining fight on Overeem’s contract effective July 22nd.

Also according to the source, Overeem has been dealing with more serious injuries than originally reported, including a broken toe and rib and elbow problems.
Overeem will fight next in October in Russia for the promotion United Glory. No word on who his opponent will be.
Also according to the source, Overeem has been dealing with more serious injuries than originally reported, including a broken toe and rib. He also has problems with an elbow.
Overeem has fought through nagging injuries and while set to fight in the StrikeForce™ semi-finals (scheduled for September 10th in Cincinnati) Overeem has stated he still needed more time to recover.
Another issue that StrikeForce™ officials had regarding Overeem’s participation in the tournament is he had only one fight left on his current contract and he would have had to fight twice to win the Grand Prix.

It's crazy though how Strikeforce's championships literally mean jack shit though. Alistair being cut just made it worse.

Heavyweight - Once defended in 3 year history against Brett Rogers (who was coming off a loss), champion cut with no losses

Light Heavyweight - Rumors of Dan Henderson not coming back after the Fedor fight if he loses because Zuffa don't want to pay him and he don't want to take a pay cut. (This is last fight on his contract).

Middleweight - Former champ bolts for UFC, new champ defending against a Challenger's fighter who hasn't fought in 17 months.

Welterweight - Champ bolted for UFC

Lightweight - Gilbert is itching to bolt for the UFC, lucky they're making him fight Masvidal

145 Women's - They don't wanna pay her, let her contract expire, now she's gone.

I guess WAR 135 Women's division, only one where there's some long term stability.

Zuffa just cut Coenen, Othereem and Einemo. Plus there's been a rumor for a couple weeks they're going to cut Sergei before he fights Barnett.
Wonder what the hell Golden Glory did to piss them off so much.

I've read many times throughout the years that Bas Boon is a fuckin jackass and has pissed off damn near the whole world of combat sports.

The Marloes and Einemo cuts fuckin suck.

Othereem should've never been in Strikeforce though.

yeah I read some insider stuff that they aren't banned, Zuffa just doesn't want to deal with the management anymore so they want to restructure their contracts. Golden Glory might end up looking like the bad guys if they refuse to let the fighters re-sign. Apparently it was in the contracts that the managers and other non-fighting GG members would get free airfare and motels for fights, and they wanted to receive the fighters' pay directly instead of it going straight to the fighters.

Shit just got real. Marloes just posted her paycheck on twitter saying Dana White is full of shit about GG management wanting the paychecks directly. The check is clearly made out to Marloes and she's saying the promotions pay the fighters directly and her management doesn't do that shit to fighters.

UFC boss says with communication open, Alistair Overeem could be octagon-bound

RIO DE JANEIRO – While UFC president Dana White was absolutely beaming following Saturday night's highly successful UFC 134 event, he still took time to address a small group of reporters regarding a variety of subjects.

While most of the inquiries surrounded UFC 134 contestants, White was also asked to address the possibility of Alistair Overeem (35-11 MMA, 3-0 SF) returning to Strikeforce or even joining the UFC.

White declined to offer a specific update but did confirm that negotiations are ongoing and that all possibilities are being discussed, including the potential for Overeem to soon make his octagon debut.

"We're talking," White said. "You guys know how that whole thing went down. Golden Glory was in this position where we couldn't do business, and they changed their position, which I respect. Now we can do business."

Overeem, of course, was released from the promotion in late July following a conflict with UFC and Strikeforce officials regarding his ability to compete in a Sept. 10 bout with Antonio Silva.

His Golden Glory teammates Marloes Coenen, Jon Olav Einemo and Valentijn Overeem were released shortly after, and White pointed to the team's wishes for paycheck to be issued directly to management as the cause for the move.

White said he still stands firm in that position but that he's happy Golden Glory has changed their tune, allowing for a new deal.

"We're never going to be in a situation where we pay managers and not fighters," White said. "We pay fighters. Fighters pay managers. We're never going to be in that situation, no matter who the guy is.

"Look how many guys from team Black House fight in the UFC. If tomorrow, they said, 'Hey, listen – you've got to pay us and not the fighters,' we're going to be in the same situation. It's not going to happen."

But while Overeem was under Strikeforce contract when he was released of his duties, White said that doesn't necessarily mean he'll return to that promotion if the Dutch heavyweight does return to the Zuffa, LLC roster.

"We'll see," White told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.coom). "We'll see what happens."

So does that mean Overeem's next fight could potentially take place in the UFC?

"It could," White teased.
