damn i was thinking there was some new good stuff out lol
For some reason I'm itching to buy something new. Like some new gadget or something that just hit the market or some new plugin. I'm not looking to buy something new like a new pair of monitors or what not. I am new as in a new product that was shown at aes or naam.

When is the next big gear show?

probably next year, i can't think of any aside from the big AES show. I'm surprized I havn't heard about any new stuff from that. I heard from a guitar center guy that a new MPC 4000 is supposed to drop but thats all just a rumor to me

I watched a couple of tutorials on utube on the MPCs and they really don't seem like a real must have item. I can do the same shit probably better with software. I wish they made a rock solid midi controller with nice MPC style pads then I'd be straight. The ones on the market are hella cheap. With a nice preamp and a good audio interface with solid converters you can make your shit sound just as good if not better.

I'll never shop at guitar center again. The majority of my experiences with them have been all bad. I purchase from sweetwater, and if I see something on CL I'll snatch it up as well (I have no problem buying used.) The mpc isn't a must have piece, which is why mine is still in storage. For one I'm getting along fine without it, I don't have time to sit and learn it, and I don't have the space for it.

the customer service at guitar center is horrible anyways. I've got on the horn and had 20 minute convos with sweetwater guys, you go see these guys face to face at guitar center and they always act like they are holyier than god and are too busy to talk to you even if you are thinking about spending 2 grand in the fucker.

Yeah, like that AKAI MPD 16 looks tacky-ish.

WTF, you need pads for though when you can use the keys on you keyboard or if you use software like I do you can visually paint them. My Axiom49 has 8pads, never even used them, but their there if I want to use them.

Some people prefer the feel of pads... A long long time ago I didn't like drum programming on anything but Akai MPC pads but I eventually outgrew that.

yeah its their new pad controller, on paper it looks pretty good and it look nice. I havn't got the chance to play with one yet though. Its gotta be better than the pad kontrol though. those pads are so hard and irresponsive. that unit sucks

i just bought the mpd24 saturday at the guitar center, apparently they had just gotten it in. i was gonna get the pad kontrol, but i figured akai makes the mpc, who better to buy an mpc-simulating device from? and i'm definitely pleased with it. the pads themselves are pretty firm, but the velocity is very adjustable, and it can detect the slightest tap.

and you guys must have some shitty people working at the guitar centers near you. i've always gotten excellent service from the guitar centers near me. when i went there saturday, i was planning on looking at the pad kontrol cuz i didn't think the mpd24 was out yet. when i saw it there, i asked the dude if i could take the two out of there boxes and compare them. he took them out for me, let me check them out, and then even repackaged them when i was done. then he helped me check out a bunch of different mics and preamps. also, another guy there helped my fiance look through guitars to find one that fit her (she's about 5'1" and has small hands). then at the other guitar center, this guy let me bring in my laptop, helped me trouble shoot my setup, listened to a beat i was working on, gave me a runthrough of reason 3.0 at the in-store studio setup, let me demo a bunch of different shit, gave me all kinds of advice on things, then let me use the computer behind the desk to get on the internet and find a lower price for the fast track pro i was looking at and consequently saved me 30 bucks. i've never had any salesperson, at any kind of store, be so helpful toward me, ever. so i'll definitely fuck with guitar center any day of the week.

The only thing is that you can't ever really trust a Guitar Center employee because they work on mostly commission, so you never really know if they're looking out for your best interest.
