Kucinich plays a despicable role for the democrats which is to provide the American "left" with a "radical" presidential candidate. This is a strategy that is nothing new to the Democrats - they attempt to draw in the more "radical" and leftists voters into the Party with candidates like Kucinich, who offers reassurance to those most deeply opposed to the war in Iraq that their views are represented within the Democratic Party.
This is exactly the role Kucinich played in 2004, when he PROMISED his supporters that he would be in the race until the very end and would NEVER tell his supporters to vote for Kerry. What did he end up doing? He did exactly just that - he lied to his supporters and withdrew from the race and TOLD them to vote for Kerry (Kucinich & Howard Dean worked together to convince opponents of the war to vote for Kerry rather than a third-party or independent candidate), which is exactly what he'll do in '08 (he will either endorse Hillary or Obama).
