adding ram to a laptop

im not sure how to do this or what to really do but i have like a 3 year old laptop that only has like 512 mb of ram and i want to make it 1 or 2 gigs of ram cuz its running slow, i just want it to run a little bit.

any suggestions?

i have a Hp Pavillion dv1000 and i wont buy a new one cuz im school and i cant afford one right now, and this one doesnt have anything really wrong with it so im stay with it.

make sure u get the correct ram for your computer.
they will have a number, mine is PC2700.. goto new egg and enter your computer type and they will tell ya what ya need.
plus its pretty cheap, i got 2 gbs for 120 bucks or so

If your hard drive is full on the laptop that might be the reason it is slow if it wasn't slow before. The ram would be a good upgrade but if you have a full hard drive you should free up some space so that you have at least a few GB free. The computer uses virtual memory sort of like ram it sets aside part of the hard drive for this but if it is full it can't so everything slows down a lot. With that and the ram it should run a lot faster.

MY HEADPHONE JACK ON MY LAPTOP IS FUCKED UP. SOUND ONLY WORKS IN ONE EAR UNLESS I MOVE IT AROUND TO FIND THE SWEET SPOT AND HOLD IT THERE. HELLA WEAK, IM GUESSING SUMTHIN IS LOOSE AND I GOTTA GET IT RE-SOLDERED. ANYBODY KNOW HOW TO FIX IT WITHOUT OPENING IT? I HEARD STICKIN FOIL IN IT WORKS BUT THAT DONT EVEN SOUND RIGHT
