I have this on my MOTU 828, Does it really transfer 8 tracks@a time?
does it sync up with the 828, so when I hit record in Cubase, it'll start up the ADAT?

any opinions on this?, is it worth it? I'm thinkin' eventually I'm gonna get an ADAT for Dumpin' Tracks. Just wanted to hear sum thoughts form experienced folks.

Yup, ADAT Lightpipe is 8 channel digital per optical connection. If you have 2 ADAT optical ins, you can dump 16 tracks digitally per pass, etc.

ADAT Lightpipe also has a sync signal in it so yup, you can sync too or use a different sync like wordclock.

Tight shit, thanks Sick Wid It, I wish I had 2 Opticals on my 828.
8 should be enough for a while though. I'm gonna have to fuck with that

Yup, Firewire/IEEE1394. That is the future right there! It's still brand new (only on second generation chips) so it's going to take a few years for manufacturers to make it wide-spread but when that happens, studios are going to change forever. We'll be able to connect up to 64 pieces of gear per cable, dump data (midi, audio, whatever) between them all digitally (and lightening fast) and have zero sync issues.

No more wiring hassles, waiting around and a lot less headaches!

the reason Digidesign 002 is sold out everywhere!!!
and rumor has it a company called Cyber Farm is making a bundle that will turn your Digi 001 into a firewire system

but when Digi drops a LE based Firewire/rackmount system...the game will be changed...buy then they should have dope controllers for the LE systems...and anyone with 15 G'z can have an amazing home studio...(mic pre's...converters...compressors...limiters...etc)
