I drive by this stadium everyday.
It is basically a spruced up, additional "bells and whistles" combination of Soldier Field & Qwest Field, with a retractable roof. They are trying to continue the "hole in the roof so God can watch the Cowboys" thing, and I suppose it is a pretty good idea to have a roof on there for September and October when it can still be extremely hot here.
However.
It is being completely overdone, especially the amenities aspect of it. To buy season tickets, you have to have a personal seat license. While this is not uncommon in professional sports today, the new Cowboys stadium is taking this to a whole new level. Anything in the lower level between the 30s are being sold at $100,000 (good for 30 years). That's right, $100 fucking thousand dollars just for the right to buy season tickets for one seat. The seat licenses gradually get lower as the seats are less desirable, but even the nosebleeders require a $10,000 seat license fee.
The result will be a beautiful stadium but one that will, by virtue of the types of people who will be at the games, far and away the tamest venue in the NFL (for a fan base that already has a reputation for sitting on their hands).
I would rather have my very nice but functional, wild and rowdy Qwest Field give my team 2-3 wins per year then the environment that will likely cement itself in Dallas starting in the fall of 2009.
