Nobody hit the Psycho Realm show last night?
Psycho Realm/OMD Show Review - March 30, 2004 By : SGV
I'll start off by saying, this show was amazing. All going down in the city of Fullerton, by 10 PM, this place was packed.
The first artists up were a duo named Smoking Section. They tore it down. I had never heard of them prior to this show, but damn! They made a new fan out of me. As they did with the rest of the crowd. People were getting hype for them. Their rhymes were Politically and socially conscious, which seemed to be the theme of all the artists on the bill. I'm looking for more info on these cats, they're very promising.
Next up was Global City. 3 emcees and 1 DeeJay. I was digging their set a lot. The crowd was hype before and Global City kept the vibe high. Going through some hard hitting jams, even bringing out Street Platoon to perfom a song with them, which was very tight. Matter of fact, every song GC did was tight. To check some of their stuff out, go to Global City Crew's official site. They have a video and some audio.
After their set, 2Mex and Xololanxinxo aka Of Mexican Descent came on. They were wearing the Mexican Luchador masks when they first started performing. The crowd was really feeling them, especially Xolo. 2Mex did some jams off his new album, the Mind Clouders album and some other jams. Whereas Xolo was doing some jams from his solos. At one point, they got the crowd so hype that mosh pits broke out. So 2Mex said that he was gonna change this from a Hip Hop show to a Punk show. The DJ through on a sick ass beat and a HUGE mosh pit broke out. No violence, just people having fun. But, the punk ass manager of the spot went on stage and asked OMD to have us stop. That was one of many of their requests to calm the already hype crowd down. Finally, they brought out Sick Jacken to do "Doctors, Drums and Danger" off of B Boys In Occupied Mexico. The crowd was loving it. The crowd was feeling the entire set. There was not one point during these first three sets that anyone in the crowd seemed not to be enjoying themselves. I was already satisfied.
Next up! Sick Jacken and Street Platoon with DJ FM. Jacken and Street Platoon were rocking ski masks as they came out to "Showdown." Around this time, some of the crowd went underneath the railing, which was to block the crowd from the stage. The stage itself wasn't that high, so the crowd was right there with Sick Symphonies as they performed. The Club was trying have everyone go back to the floor, but Jacken let it be known that he had no problems with us being up there. As they went through songs from Street Platoon and Psycho Realm, mosh pits were breaking out, people were stage diving. This shit was like a rock show without any Rock n Roll. I've never seen a crowd that hype, yet peaceful, before in my life. I also, have never seen artists control a crowd like the Sick Symphonies crew did, and I've seen some of the best Hip Hop has to offer. They closed the show with "Good Times" off of the new album. The crew stuck around after talking to the fans and signing autographs.
