I don't use Reason, but I tried it once back with version 2. What I think you have to do is fuck with the patterns (1-8) in Redrum. Then you mix each of those patterns up in the sequencer, taking certain patterns out/in to create variations. That's basically the same idea as Fruity Loop's step sequencer, except you can see the whole thing. You should be able to trigger sounds via midi as well through the piano roll, like C5 - C=Kick, D=Snare, E=HiHat, F=OpenHat,etc.... That's the most realistic you can get because you ain't limited to a certain space, 16steps. Not sure how that would work with the Redrum though, but I'm sure it's possible.

Anyways, I wouldn't buy into this whole "I wanna step my game up, so I got Reason instead of Fruity Loops." That whole mentality is BS. What it all comes down to is TALENT and the quality of sounds you choose to use. FL Studio is perfectly capable. Just DON'T use the sounds it comes with. Their both sick programs, I just wouldn't call FL trash. There's just too many misconceptions about it because so many damn people use it and because of the "Fruity" name. It's small in size, easy to download, easy to make instant music. Of course there's going to be millions of people using it and within those millions you have a higher chance of hearing shitty music being made, see YOUTUBE videos. If Reason was 100megs in size also, I guarantee you'll see a lot of crappy music floating around being made with Reason as well.

ok i figured out the patterns but im still havin a problem with puttin the patterns into order...like i have different patters but wat do i do to set the patters to play at the times i want them to?
I believe that's where you have to arrange them down in the sequencer. I don't know how familiar you are with FL Studio, but basically think of how FL Studio's Playlist works. The Playlist is where you build your song up, by placing the pattern blocks in it. So in Reason it's similiar.

Anyways, I personally don't really know since I don't use Reason. I just have an idea from trying Reason2. I really didn't get all into Reason when I tried it.

Check this out:

At about 3:40 into the video he goes on explaining how to get into "Edit Mode" so you can edit your patterns for use in the sequencer. That's exactly what you need, so you can trigger your patterns at certain times, to create variations. It's a techno beat, but you'll get the idea.

alllright, the drums, just take out your keyboard(midi) and play them by pressing the keys in 1 octave lower than the middle c

(there a four parts to a bar, 1,2,3,4,
snares go on the first square of 2 and 4)

you can just click on the drum(wav sound) you want and select the boxes

after you have a nice drum sequence, if you want to import the drums to the track, right click the Redrum, then select "import to track"

then you can edit it better that way as if you actually played the drums instead of using A1,A2,B1,B2 etc...

another way is to just play the keyboard while you record
