U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operation officers at the El Paso port of entry seized 923 pounds of marijuana on Memorial day in a commercial truck that was trying to enter the U.S. from Mexico. The estimated street value of the seized contraband is $738,400.
“This was a deeply concealed drug load,” said Hector Mancha, CBP El Paso Port Director. “CBP officers used multiple tools to identify and locate this sizable drug shipment.”
The seizure was made at approximately 5:30 p.m. at the Bridge of the Americas international crossing cargo compound when a tractor pulling an empty trailer arrived from Mexico. CBP officers scanned the truck with an x-ray system and noted a number of irregularities in the appearance of the walls of the trailers.
CBP officers continued their exam and drilled into the support beams producing a substance which tested positive for marijuana. A CBP drug sniffing dog also alerted to the trailer walls. CBP officers removed the wooden interior walls of the trailer and then pulled 1,064 packages of marijuana from the trailer beams.
No arrests were made and the investigation continues
