Building a computer is going to take the most of that bread away. What program is the studio in stockton using? Right now I am thinking you can use a new pc, an m-audio card running pro tools and a shure 58 or akg c1000. That would put you in the ball park of 900, and you'll be able to make beats and record with that. Also, you can flip a hard disk recorder (like a boss or roland), dump your tracks to that, take it to the studio, sync it and dump. As far as beat machines go you have to shop around. Boss, Akai and Emu would be the way to go.

save it because studio equipment is really expensive... but if u can look for deals and bargains that way u get more out of your money, but thats what i think but if u cant find what u need just save up for some bomb ass kush instead fuck it...

Cheap ass PC from Fry's - 150
more ram & burner - 100
used 19-22" CRT - 100
midi controller w/ keyboard and drum pads - 200
USB/Firewire interface w/ decent mic pre-amp - 300
Shure SM-57 - 85

Your soundcard will come with a Lite version of at least one popular DAW. If you have a preference of DAW, you might even let that influence what interface you buy (depending on the bundled software).

Then for stuff like additional sounds, you can download all the free sounds and VST/VSTi you can get your hands on.

You'll probalby need an editor, and Audacity is free.

You will probably eventually want the full-blown version of your DAW if choice, but you can buy that later (or look for it in some dark alley on the internet).

So I put you a little over budget and didn't include an OS for the PC which you'll need, ask your friends, see if someone will loan you at least Windows 2000 if you can't get ahold of XP.
