TORRANCE -- An 80-year-old woman with a rap sheet dating back to 1955 has been sentenced to three years in state prison for burglarizing a medical office building in Torrance.
Doris Thompson appeared in Torrance Superior Court Wednesday, announcing loudly, "I plead guilty," the Daily Breeze reported.
Thompson could have spent up to 12 years in prison but accepted a plea bargain to avoid any more time in county jail, which she said she didn't like. She was ordered to pay $1,400 in restitution.
Thompson was arrested Feb. 4 for slipping into the Children's Medical Group office at 3440 Lomita Blvd. last December. Employees think she snuck in while a male employee was there and then waited for him to leave.
"She just kind of came through and ransacked the drawers and stole money," an employee told the Breeze. "She was very sly and quiet."
Thompson, who has 27 aliases, has repeatedly been arrested during the past 55 years, mainly for petty theft and burglary, state records show. She's gone to jail several times.
She was told she will be elibible for parole in about 18 months. Thompson reportedly said she deserved a longer prison sentence.
