Marguerite Engle has a problem. Her record .708 percent BAC has set the kind of record that nobody should be proud of. Engle was found passed out behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle. When police tested her blood alcohol level it registered an amazing .708. To give you an idea of how high Marguerite Engle’s BAC was .40 is considered lethal for about 50% of the population. South Dakota’s legal limit is .08, so Engle was almost nine times above that limit.
Marguerite Engle is said to have achieved a South Dakota state record for the highest BAC ever recorded, but did not “win” the national prize.
Engle obviously has a problem because according to reports Engle was released from the hospital, without paying a bond, she then missed her court date, got drunk and stole another car.
Days after missing her court date, Engle was found drunk and passed out behind the wheel of another stolen vehicle on another highway near Sturgis.
Her second DUI landed her in jail without bail. The judge denied the bail the second time around, so it doesn’t look like vehicle owners in the Sturgis area need to worry about an extremely intoxicated woman is going to be stealing their vehicles anytime soon. State chemists are saying that the next highest level that he can remember is .56.
So, Marguerite Engle and her record .708 percent BAC has set a new South Dakota state record. She’s facing two DUI charges within a month, as well as possible grand theft auto charges for the vehicles she stole. I don’t know how someone builds up the ability to drink that much and not be passed out, but it is obvious that this woman has a major alcohol problem. Although this seems to be a funny story it is only because she did not crash into someone and kill them. Unfortunately, if this type of behavior continues it is clear that she Marguerite Engle is going to end up killing someone, and possibly herself. Hopefully the sentence she receives is substantial enough that it keeps her off the road long enough to receive treatment for her alcoholism.
