UH OHHHH
The first NFL regular season game ever outside the United States will take place Sunday, October 2, when the 49ers face the Arizona Cardinals at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, Mexico.
Stadium capacity exceeds 100,000.
"I think it is fantastic. Any chance we get to establish ourselves outside of our main marketing base and be able to recruit new fans is wonderful,” said tackle Kwame Harris. “We'll have a chance to go down to Mexico and show them what American football is all about. Hopefully, we'll get some people who are interested in it and that will buy into the 49ers' franchise."
The game will be televised by ESPN with kickoff set for 5:30 p.m. Pacific Time. It will be a home game for the Cardinals.
“This organization has always embraced the opportunity to serve as ambassadors of the NFL. We have played in eight American Bowl games – the second most in league history – and we are excited about the prospect of playing the first regular season game on foreign soil," John York said. "Having this opportunity speaks to the popularity of the 49ers worldwide. The fans in Mexico are tremendous and we look forward to being a part of it.”
