Do y'all feel letting Mike Martz go is a mistake? I know Mike Singletary and Martz have different styles but I feel like Mike Martz is getting shafted even though he should be given most of the credit for the Niners turning things around. I mean the 49ers offense hasn't looked that good in years. So do y'all feel letting Martz go will be regretted? I think so, I don't think the 9er offense will be that good next year now that Martz is gone.

The 49ers offense looked somewhat decent when Norv Turner was here.

But the next coordinator will be the 6th one in 6 seasons, not good for continuity. Martz wanted to stick with JTO but I'm glad Singletary benched him. The 9ers offense won't be good until they get a franchise QB.

Once Mike Singletary took over we were no longer running Martz' offense. We may have passed more than Singletary would have liked, but ultimately we weren't running the complicated plays that Martz regularly uses and we started to pound the ball more. Next year we will see a lot more of Frank Gore because that's how Singletary wants to play offense - and that's a very good thing for us. We saw what a strong running game OC can do with what we have in SF when Norv Turner was here in 06. Whoever Singletary brings in just needs to know how to prepare his players to execute the gameplan. That was one of the many, many things Jim Hostler could not do last season. We'll be fine on offense.

he should be given most of the credit for the Niners turning things around.
The Niners didn't turn things around until Mike Nolan got fired, and like I said, Singletary forced Martz to run a different offense. The offense was more prepared for their opponents as opposed to 07 when Hostler was OC, but I wouldn't go so far as to claim Mike Martz is the reason they started turning things around. Don't forget we were a terrible team until Singletary took over.

Personally, I preferred Norv Turner's offense.

I think it might be the right move for several reasons..

First of all we need to get Vernon Davis the ball. Martz tried to use him as a deep threat and that's just not what he is. He has the speed to burn defenders but he doesn't have the great hands to be catching bombs all the time. He's made a few spectacular catches but he's not consistent. They need to have him running short-to-intermediate routes and let him rack up the YAC. That's what he's good at.

Second, we need to pound the ball and get it to Gore more often. I know Martz tried to run more often under Singletary, but his offense is just not geared for a power running game. We need a lead blocker, a fullback, like in 06 when our run game was the best it has ever been.

So as long as Singletary hires somebody who can prepare the offense for it's opononets, unlike Jim Hostler in 07, we'll be good.

I think we need another RB to go with Gore. Gore is good for getting the 3rd downs, and starting the game knocking on the opponents defense, but against Dallas and mid-season he struggled. Maybe it was the playcalls, but we should get a 2RB system.

We're going to have to revisit this thread once the football season starts. Martz had the biggest impact as far as the Niners improving offensively and moving the ball down field. Nothing against Mike Singletary but I think the Niners should of hired Martz as head coach and Mike Singletary as defensive coordinator. The Niners offense will regress. Singletary is stuck back in the 80's and early 90's mode. Power running games are gone... Back then teams that ran the ball well won SB's (with the exception of the 49ers). Now you have to pass the ball to win SB's these days. IMO!!

We'll see what happens!!

I dont think it was a mistake either, Martz offense was watered down for Shaun Hill, so its almost like it wasnt a Martz offense......

My bad 9er fans, y'all were right. I gotta admit I was wrong. Gore busted over 200 yards today, my bad, doesn't look like Martz is needed!
