By vector they don't necessarily mean cartoon typed images or shit like that. The thing with vector graphics, they can be resized as large as you want and won't lose any quality. As for photos, use a very very high res camera. Poke, check out this explanation for vector ( ie illustrator ) vs. bitmap ( photoshop )

Also with vector, you wouldn't need to make a 4ft by 12ft document because the vector is scaleable. That size of document would make your pc cry lol.
