Three New Yorkers are singing a different tune after a run in with police. The suspects allegedly stole 39 iPods and several Playstation 2 games from stores in Riverdale. But it's how they pulled off the robbery that has police scratching their heads.
Surveillance tape from the Target store in Riverdale showed one of the suspects stuff 39 iPods down an oversized pair of pants and walked out of the store undetected.
"They had one look out down the aisle, and a driver in the getaway car," said Riverdale detective Bill Fuchs. "What's amazing is that he did it in fifteen seconds."
But within minutes of the robbery, Target's security department sent out an e-mail with pictures of the suspects to other stores. "A Centerville guy (employee) said these guys are here in our store now," said Fuchs.
But the suspects couldn't break into the iPod case at the Centerville Target store. They left before police arrived. Security watched them get into their car and wrote down their license plate.
Centerville Police found the suspects attempting to get onto I-15. Police say the three suspects are from New York and flew into town Thursday night.
By Friday afternoon, they were in police custody. In the back of their car police found a bag full of iPods and Playstation 2 games and oversized pair of pants in the trunk
Riverdale police said the heist was worth more than seven thousand dollars in iPods alone.
And police also found a map of every Target store in Utah and Nevada tucked inside the seat of the suspect's car. "There were similar maps of Arizona with Target destinations as well," said Fuchs.
