I DONT THINK SOME PPL HAVE EVER MADE OR SPENT 8 G'S IN THE RAPGAME. SO NO NEED 2 ACT PROFESSIONAL IF U HAVENT DONE THAT. I THINK 2 BE A PROFESSOR U NEED 2 HAVE EXPERIENCE AT SOMETHING AND NOT JUST STUDY IT. SICCNESS.NET IS FULL OF PHILOSOPHY,WHICH IS GOOD AT TIMES...BUT SOME PPL GET OUT OF HAND AND DONT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PERSONAL FACT AND PERSONAL OPINION. I'LL HOLLA 2MORROW. PEACE

WHAT ARTISTS DO YOU FEEL ARE WORTH PAYING FOR FEATURES AND WHY???

I'd seriously pay a good techno DJ to make me a club hit, I honestly believe this shit is taking off more than ever. All around the world everyone in clubs are on uppers and they want a high energy beat in the club. Look at triple six mafia for example.

You won't please the core fans one bit, but you will hit the global market like never before.

Question is, would you do something like this?

These days a good feature gets you at least some publicity and exposure from their fans because they will check out whatever their favorite artist is doing... It won't necessarily lead to more album sales though, but could lead to single download sales. People just aren't buying albums because their favorite is featured on one song these days. Just not necessary anymore.

^^ this. if you're an unknown artist, you're more or less paying for youtube views. gone are the days of people browsing through the record store, seeing an artist they never heard before tha has a bunch of dope features, & taking a chance on it. i used to do that all the time.. but now the market is flooded with so much bullshit that as a consumer you really gotta listen to the album (minute long clips of every song AT LEAST) before spending money on it.

at best, you're gonna get some sales on itunes for that track.. but more than likely i think people will just find a way to illegally download it. i think its almost better to just put the money into production & make sure its a polished release full of good music.

The other side of the coin in this is, not only are many of the artist not worth the money in today's game, but with the whole free / bootleg downloading epidemic it's set for failure from the start.

Back in the early 2G's it was nothing to pay for a $1500 verse because we could run out to the street and Cd's would sell. I did it & it was all good, made my money back plus, but that's just not happening today like it was then. That all boils down to anything invested into your project. I think artist / independent labels in today's world are seriously budgeting and just like any corporation / small business is not trying to spend money that's not going to move & make a profit. There is no room for gambling in 2011 - 2012. That's why many independents no longer press a large amount of hard copies. They settle for digital downloads. It's cutting cost / budgeting. Spend a little less in hopes to make that extra money back a lot faster. It's back to the basics, it's all a test run again.

Now, along comes the artist who wants 2 to 3G's for a 16 bar measure & the artist / label paying has to really think outside the box. They have to think business, but most approach it as a fan & not care to dish out a large amount of money to someone they look up to. Thinking everybody in the world is a fan of that artist he's paying. He's not looking into that artists' current status. If the artist asking for 2 or 3G's is not selling units to match the money they're asking for, they have 10,000 hit's on youtube, but it was uploaded 4 years ago from the date you checked, their facebook artist page has a few hundred more likes than yours, their iTunes sales etc.

That's one way to check your artist current status and not just feeding into the sales pitch he's feeding you of the I, I, I... Of course just like you shouldn't put all your eggs in one basket, you wouldn't label that artist just based on that alone, but it gives you an idea of what your looking at in sales & the buzz this artist has in today's new digital world. Which is where most people are buying their music today.

THIS REMINDS ME OF THE PERSON WHO HAS A WEED HABIT AND BUYS DIMES SACCS ALL MONTH INSTEAD OF "GETTIN SMART" AND JUST BUYING A ZIP. I DO UNDERSTAND,EVERYBODY HAS NOT EVEN WITNESSED ANY REAL BUSINESS IN THIS RAP SHIT. "ANYBODY" CAN MAKE A CD AND TRY 2 SELL IT PERSONALLY BUT THATS NOT EVEN THE GAME ANYMORE. IF I WAS DEBATING WITH PPL WHO ACTUALLY HAVE HAD DEALS WITH A REAL LABEL OR HAVE EXPERIENCED HAVING A REAL FAN BASE FAR AWAY HOME I COULD TAKE SOME OF THIS AS FACT AND NOT PERSONAL OPINION. I APPRECIATE THE PEOPLE THAT PLAY BY THE RULES AND DONT TRY 2 MAKE UP THEIR OWN WHEN THEY DONT HAVE ANY POWER. LIKE I SAID,I GET ASKED 2 DO FEATURES STILL EVERY MONTH. I GET ASKED 2 DO SHOWS EVERY MONTH. $200 AINT EVEN GAS MONEY 2 GET WHERE I HAVE 2 GO 2 PERFORM OR RECORD. LEVELS OF PROFESSIONALISM ARE STILL APPARENT IN ALL ASPECTS OF LIFE. WE HAVE THE NBA...AND THE CBA. THE NFL AND THE CFL. THEN WE HAVE THE REAL RAP GAME AND THE IM JUST TRYIN 2 GET ON PART OF IT. IVE SEEN IT ALL FROM $400,000 BUDGET PER ALBUM 2 WHAT IT IS NOW. ONE OF MY MAIN POINTS IN THIS THREAD WAS THAT ALBUMS WITH BUDGETS DO BETTER AND ARE MORE PROFESSIONAL. I BELIEVE THAT IS A FACT..NOT A PHILOSOPHY. IF U FEEL U DONT NEED FEATURES ON YOUR ALBUM,THEN DO U. PEOPLE IN THIS BIZ ONLY RESPECT HARD WORK AND THE POWER OF THE DOLLAR. I DONT KNOW WHAT WORLD U GUYS ARE LIVING IN. I GUESS U FEEL LIKE ARTISTS SHOULD BE HEADLININ SHOWS 4 $200 ALSO HUH??

I say listen to your fans Tay. Satisfy your fan base. I still say there should be more unity amongst better known artists. Utilize whatever star power left regionally. Collaboration projects get more fans involved, Not to mention connections and knowledge on a broader scale. No one regional artist can compete with a major. 2 or 3 bosses with something to bring to the table can. I know that's easier said than done due to business, But it can be as simple as 1/2 or 1/3 of an equal investment. Just what I'm thinking.

@outcasted, living abroad gives you a different view, but not every one is up on or even fucks with guys like tiesto or armen van buren (especially people who mainly listen to rap). those guys do pack clubs around the world tho.

Fair enough. My suggestion wasn't meant to be offensive, my apologies if it came off that way.

Yeah you are right, I was just using tiesto as an example though and yeah they pack the clubs and are among the most well known artists in the industry.

My point was finding a niche within a niche to reach a new customers.

Tay, know I am a fan and when I speak on these issues it's because I want to see you do well, nothing negative. As for my credentials to speak on these issues, I would disclose them privately if you wanted.
