LOS ANGELES - A 3-year-old girl gunned down in her driveway after a trip to McDonald's was targeted in a callous attack by gang members, authorities said.

Kaitlyn Avila died Oct. 1, when two men pulled up in front of her family's Baldwin Village apartment and shot her point blank. Her father also was injured in the incident.

Though police said they don't know the motive for the girl's slaying, some parents expressed fear that the Oct. 1 shooting was a twisted gang initiation gone tragically wrong.
why the child?

....thoughts?

Damn shame. That liitle girl's life was cut short over some bullshit.

One of the guys is in custody, that's all well and good, but its NOT THE SHOOTER. Thats just fan-fuckin'-tastic. Whose to say somethin' like that won't happen again?

How the fuck do you "think" someone is from a rival turf? You either know or you don't. Once you pull the trigger, there's no turnin' back, whats done is done.

Gang Member Accused of Shooting 3 Year Old Caught
By Richard Winton and Erika Hayasaki, Times Staff Writers
3:32 PM PDT, October 10, 2006

A 17-year-old gang member accused of intentionally shooting a 3-year-old at point blank range last month was captured by an LAPD-FBI task force in San Bernardino County today after community members gave up his location, police said.

Jonathan Banks of Los Angeles was named Monday by the LAPD as the man who killed Kaitlyn Avila and wounded her father, Cesar, during a Sept. 24 attack that stunned the Baldwin Village neighborhood.

An alleged accomplice of Banks' was arrested Friday.

"Information from a concerned member of community lead to his arrest," LAPD Deputy Chief Charles Beck said. "We are very happy that a dangerous criminal is off the streets thanks to the public and a good investigation."
