OCEANSIDE, Calif. -- U.S. immigration authorities say they arrested 21 Mexican gang members and their associates in a series of raids in Oceanside Tuesday.
Immigration officials say three of those arrested will be prosecuted in federal court for felony reentry to the United States.
Lauren Mack, a spokeswoman for the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, says the three were barred from entry because of prior felony drug or weapons convictions.
The 18 others will face formal deportation proceedings.
Most of the 19 men and two women arrested range in age from their early 20s to mid 40s. Most were arrested in their homes before dawn by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, Sheriff's deputies and Oceanside police. They will be booked into a federal detention facility.
Mack says five of the suspects are known gang members.
