The Royals have had internal discussions about Brett Anderson possibly filling one of their rotation spots, ESPN's Buster Olney is hearing.
It seems as though Anderson isn't in the Athletics' rotation plans going forward, and the A's may be open to dealing the southpaw. Anderson has been injury-plagued in his five years in the majors, making just 11 starts over the past two seasons. Last year Anderson had a 6.04 ERA in 44 2/3 innings, almost half of which came in relief. Still just 25, Anderson could be a nice option for a team willing to take a chance.

Athletics signed RHP Matt Buschmann to a minor league contract.
The 29-year-old has spent eight seasons in the minors, owning a 66-52 record and 4.05 ERA. Last season he had a 2.86 ERA in 160 2/3 innings over two levels in the Rays' system. He'll serve as pitching depth for the A's.

Athletics purchased the contract of RHP Raul Alcantara from High-A Stockton. (added to 40 man roster)
Alcantara, who turns 21 next month, had a promising 3.11 ERA and 124/24 K/BB ratio over 156 1/3 innings this past season between Class A Beloit and High-A Stockton. He was acquired from the Red Sox in Andrew Bailey deal two offseasons ago.

makin moves makin moves.

I wonder what the royals are willing to give up. They had a pretty decent season last year. I dont think their too far off from being a playoff team

Athletics signed RHP Jeremy McBryde to a minor league contract.
The Athletics continue to bolster their organizational bullpen depth with another potential impact arm. The 26-year-old logged 61 1/3 innings at Double-A San Antonio in 2013, netting 15 saves while posting a stellar 2.35 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 73/15 K/BB ratio. It seems likely that he could work his way into the bullpen mix at some point during 2014

Athletics signed RHP Deryk Hooker to a minor league contract.
The 24-year-old spent the first seven years of his career in the Cardinals organization, most recently compiling a 4.12 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 75/18 K/BB ratio over 67 2/3 innings between Double-A Springfield and Triple-A Memphis in 2013. He'll serve as organizational depth for the A's.

Athletics signed RHP Jose Flores to a minor league contract.
The 24-year-old hurler pitched very well for Cleveland's Double-A affiliate in Akron in 2013, posting a 2.71 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 87/27 K/BB ratio over 66 1/3 innings. Don't be surprised if he manages to crack the A's bullpen at some point during the 2014 season.

Athletics prospect Jeremy Barfield has continued this offseason to make the transition to pitching.
The 25-year-old outfielder, and son of former major leaguer Jesse Barfield, began the transition halfway through the 2013 season. He worked in the instructional league then pitched a handful of games in the Dominican Winter League, and is now working at the team's facility in Arizona. The A's are hoping that the hard-throwing lefty can replicate the successful transition that Sean Doolittle has made, now one of the premiere relievers in the league.

Jane Lee of MLB.com believes that Daric Barton is a candidate to be non-tendered by the Athletics.
The 28-year-old is better known for his defensive chops than he is with the bat, but fared well in limited time this season, slashing .269/.350/.375 with three homers and 16 RBI in 104 at-bats. The problem is that the A's already have Brandon Moss, Nate Freiman and Seth Smith capable of playing first base, and may not be able to justify Barton's salary.

WOOOOW

According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the A's have a two-year agreement with left-hander Scott Kazmir.
Which likely means that Oakland will move on from free agent right-hander Bartolo Colon. Kazmir revitalized his career this past season with Cleveland, posting a 4.04 ERA and 162/47 K/BB ratio in 158 innings. Making half his starts at the A's pitcher-friendly home park will likely lead to a nice boost in fantasy value. Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports says the two-year contract is worth more than $16 million total.

Jim Bowden of ESPN and SiriusXM reports that Scott Kazmir's two-year deal with the A's is for $22 million.

The A's are no longer pursuing Bartolo Colon.
Oakland struck a two-year, $22 million free agent contract Monday with left-handed starter Scott Kazmir and there isn't much more room in the budget. Colon, 40, is likely drawing interest from multiple teams after posting a 2.65 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in 190-plus innings this year.

so yeah its actually $22 mil. Kazmir made a pretty good comeback last year but thats a lotta money for a guy who has an injury history. oh well, im glad to see them making moves.

also- Daric Barton will be tendered a contract by the A's.
Barton was a strong non-tender candidate after another disappointing season, but the 28-year-old first baseman is a good defender and shouldn't cost the A's too much money. He's arbitration-eligible for the second time after pulling in a $1.1 million salary in 2013.

"factors in play".... you mean $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets that the Athletics offered the same two-year, $22MM contract to Tim Hudson prior to his two-year, $23MM agreement with the Giants.

Kazmir signing could possibly kill the team with his injuries

A's are used to injuries. If dude makes more starts then brett anderson last year, and comes away at the end of the season winning anywhere close to .500 then it fills the gap.

1 pitcher not making his starts isnt going to "kill the team"

This is a bit of a surprise...Anderson involved maybe?

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Athletics are the team "most involved" in trade talks for Jim Johnson.
Rosenthal reported earlier Monday that the Dodgers were in the mix, but he's now saying they're essentially out of the running. Johnson is slated to make more than $10 million in his final year of arbitration and likely won't cost much in the way of prospects. The 30-year-old has tallied back-to-back 50-save seasons but also blew a league-high nine opportunities. He would take over the ninth inning in Oakland with Grant Balfour expected to depart in free agency.
