The best & worst of 2011:

Round of the Year - Kirkland vs Angulo, Round 1. (video)

KO of the year - Nonito Donaire TKO2 Montiel (link to video)

Fight of the Year - Akira Yaegashi vs Pornsawan Porpramook (video)

Prospect of the year - Gary Russell Jr.

Fighter of the Year - Andre Ward (dominated Carl Froch & Arthur Abraham).
Runner up: Nonito Donaire (KO2 montiel, decision Omar Narvaez)

Trainer of the Year - Robert Garcia (trains Donaire, Brandon Rios, Mikey Garcia)

Most exciting fighter - Brandon Rios (TKO11 John Murray, KO3 Urbano Antillon, TKO10 Miguel Acosta).

Event of the Year - Pacquiao vs Marquez III, Las Vegas, NV ($11,648,300 gate).
Runner up - Floyd vs Ortiz Las Vegas, NV ($9,000,00 gate)

Greatest achievement - Bernard Hopkins beating Jean Pascal to become the oldest champion in the history of boxing (46 years old). (highlights)

Idiot of the Year - Kelly Pavlik (turns down million dollar paydays vs Bute, Kessler, etc., get's DUI).
Runner up: Victor Ortiz for not protecting himself at all times and attempting to hug/kiss Mayweather multiple times after a blatant headbutt which he later admitted was intended to break floyd's nose.

Robbery of the Year - Paul Williams vs Erislandy Lara (all three judges are still suspended after that disaster).
Runner ups: Robert Helenius vs Dereck Chisora, Matthew Macklin vs Felix Sturm.

Worst event letdown - David Haye vs Wladimir Klitschko. After all that talk, all the wait, the biggest heavyweight fight in years and Haye put on an absolute terrible performance (and while Wlad clearly won, he didn't do anything to make anyone excited that's for sure).

Best impersonation of Sloth from the Goonies: Pawel Wolak's hematoma vs Rodriguez. (PICTURE)

Comeback Fighter of the Year - Erik Morales (coming out of a 2½-year retirement and nearly beating Marcos Maidana & setting himself up for big fights in 2012). Runner up: James Kirkland for returning after a 2 year prison stint, getting TKO'd by a no-name and then knocking out Angulo in spectacular fashion.

Biggest waste of a year - Timothy Bradley Jr. After beating Devon Alexander in Jan., Bradley sat the rest of the year out passing on Amir Khan and eventually fighting a horribly shot Joel Casamayor on the Pac-JMM undercard.

Biggest fight that never happened - no surprise, Floyd vs Pac.

Blood Bath of the year - Linares vs Demarco (PICTURE

Best two consecutive KO's of the year - Adrian Broner vs Litzau & Rodriguez

Beatdown of the year - Gamboa vs Solis (VIDEO

Worst sucker punch of the year - "Charlie Z" in a sparring session against Floyd Sr. (VIDEO

Worst sanctioning body of the year - The WBC. For protecting Chavez jr. and not stripping Floyd of his belt for going to jail because violence against women was not a "major sin or crime."

Best quote of the year - Emmanuel Steward "OH MAH GAWWD!!!!" (VIDEO

I should add:

Worst ref of the year - Russell Mora (Mares vs Agbeko I), for allowing Mares to low blow Agbeko literally over 50 times in 12 rounds and also completely blowing a blatant low blow that was so bad it knocked Agbeko down to his knees in which Mora ruled as a legit knock down, resulting in a 10-8 round for Mares.

Runner up: Joseph "Throw some thunder!" Cooper (Khan vs Peterson) for deducting two points from khan for pushing off, one of which in the final championship round when the fight was razor close

I haven't had a chance to watch the Lara-Williams fight, was the decision that bad?
so bad all three judges were suspended (including the one that scored it a draw) and remain suspended till this day.

http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/i...ended-new-jersey-state-athletic-control-board

New Jersey State Athletic Control Board took the highly unusual action of indefinitely suspending the three judges who worked the 12-round bout.

Williams was given a heavily criticized majority decision victory Saturday night as judges Hilton Whitaker (115-114) and Don Givens (116-114) scored for him, while Al Bennett (114-114) had the HBO-televised main event at Boardwalk Hall's Adrian Phillips Ballroom a draw.

Lara, a former Cuban amateur star in his first major professional fight, however, landed his left hand at will. He appeared to win in the eyes of reporters covering the fight, all of HBO's commentators, HBO unofficial judge Harold Lederman and the pro-Williams crowd, which booed the decision. An overwhelming number of television viewers also took to Twitter and boxing message boards to voice their outrage over the decision.

CompuBox statistics were also telling: Williams was credited with landing 200 of 1,047 punches, 19 percent, while Lara was credited with landing 224 of 530 punches (42 percent).

Lara beat the shit out of Williams. Paul has absolutely ZERO clue how to fight southpaws, he kept walking into the same left hand over and over and over. If Lara had a little more pop he definitely would have knocked him out. I had Williams winning two rounds, just solely on activity. I can live with someone giving williams 3 rounds, but that's it.

No shit! Even the judge who had it a draw got suspended?! That's pretty fucked up. Is the fight worth trying to find online? I'd have to turn it off before the decision tho, bad decisions really fuck my mood up. Thanks for the info.

the fact that even the judge who scored it a draw got suspended should tell everyone how bad of a robbery it was. It was no way even close to a draw. I thought it was literally the worst decision I have probably ever seen in my life, besides maybe whitaker vs chavez or something like that from 20 years ago.

It was a pretty entertaining fight though, I thought Lara put on a hell of a show for a guy with such few pro fights.

yea good fight/robbery...lara landed that left hand at will, just like the sergio punch, if he was a little harder of a puncher then no doubt he wouldve slept williams. those judges were high as fucc!
