IF you had 10,000 dollars flat what would you do word for word to build your own Studio in a room about 120 square feet? Asuming that the room is completly empty. If anyone has a good scheme or idea let me know.

depends on the type of music you are doing. rock WILL require a DIFFERENT set up that rap/hip hop. rap will require a different set up than classical. its based on the music.

if its rap i would buy a really good keyboard workstation. $1000-$2000

2 sound modules $500-$1000 (each)

a decent pair of monitors $300-$500 a pair (more if bi amped) and amp to power them $200-$500 (if they are not powered)

a decent mixer $1500-$3000 (you want more inputs/channels if you will be multitracking)

decent condensers $150-$300

a nice dynamic $75-$150

fx unit $100-$500

sequencer/sampler (i would use a pc instead of an mpc) $1200-3500

recording format. this is where it gets tricky. how many tracks do you NEED right now? 24? 32? 8 or 16? do you want to sync the units or do you want one unit that does all the recording?

adats are $999 a piece.

mackie recording systems can reach into the 1500-3 grand department.

you can also record to the pc (this would be good if you are using it as a sequencer).

a compressor $200-$400

mic pre (optional)

ROOM TREATMENT (300-1000)

CABLES (PRICES VARY)

YOU CAN GET A DECENT HOME STUDIO SET UP FOR TEN GRAND. THATS NOT EVEN INCLUDING IF YOU GET AN ALL IN ONE UNIT (LIKE A ROLAND VS2480 OR A YAMAHA 4416). IF YOU GO THAT ROUTE THAT REDUCES FX UNITS, RECORDING FORMAT AND MIXER. SAME THING IF YOU OPT TO RECORD EXCLUSIVELY TO A PC OR MAC.

FIND OUT WHAT YOU *WANT* TO DO AND COMAPRE THAT TO WHAT YOU *NEED* TO DO.

HOPE I WAS A HELP

^^ thats all good,, but make sure you get the right multi-track recording system.... cause allot of them suck ass... most cats use software these days... whitch is allmost unlimited tracks.. up to 50-100 on most software, if you ain't got a strong, steady comp and you wanna use software to record & mix ...should get a nice comp while ur at it... N allot of those all in 1 studio recording units are wack.

the costs should justify the needs and vice versa. does he NEED unlimited tracks? does he NEED unlimited redos? i would take an all in oen recording system BEFORE i would take a pc or slam to adats. thats my PREFERENCE and i have my reasons for that. however i have an all in one recording system and a pc. so i use them both and drop them to TAPE.

sit down and WRITE out what you want to DO. after that write what you NEED to do the job. after the look into 5 or more products that are capable of handling each job (an example of this would be 5 keyboards). after that factor in YOUR knowledge of recording AND the learning curve. complete albums? pre production?

if you NEED it buy it. if you DONT need it dont get it. do you NEED 96k 24 bit?

word for word you say?

I would ask a professional for help on what equipment would go good for me.
