I figured I would get the macho "i've hooked up with a bunch of catholic school girls when i was 25 etc..." and then I knew I would get the guys who hate Christianity...so really I'm in the same place I was before I made this thread

I know whores from all schools/walks of life. I know some great women who went to Catholic school and are raising amazing kids too...so I think it's really all up to the parents in the end
That's what I was saying, all schools have hoes not just the catholic ones.

Do Catholic schools teach evolution?

This is the biggest thing to think about. Is this catholic school gonna teach your kids that the earth is 6000 years old and all of that bullshit?

I would definitely take a 30 to 1 student teacher ratio over my child being fed religious garbage.

Personally growing up I was in schools with giant class sizes and always made honor roll. My daughter spent elementary school in big classes and she always made honor roll. If you push your kids to do well and teach them discipline large class sizes shouldn't be an issue.

I know you said earlier that you don't have charter schools close by you, but if you can find one that you don't mind taking a drive to a good charter school is amazing, my daughter spent middle school in a charter school and it was great, she's about to start at a different charter for freshman year of high school. I wish I had the option of going to a charter school growing up.

good question. If not, I'll teach a lesson at home and tell her to keep it to herself when she's at school
Face-Me @Face-Me a lot of the well-to-do people at my work have their kids in immersion schools, so their kids are fluent in fuckin English and Cantonese by the time they're in 3rd grade. Pretty awesome. All my jewish friends who started out in "Jew Skoo" turned out to be productive members of society

Put it this way Matt, you have two choices here:

Go with Catholic school, just know that there will be churchy shit mixed in with your kids education. Or, go with public school with NO churchy shit. Its your choice.
I wholeheartedly agree with this.
A brainwashed mind is a hard thing to get rid of. Even when I quit believing in the religion I was brought up in I still found myself applying their form of reasoning to things. The conditioning runs very deep.

It's not as simple as "do I want my child to have to deal with churchy shit or do I not?"...it's more like "would I rather my child deal with churchy shit or have to fight through school?"
I'd try it out bro. And if it get funky you can always put her in Catholic school. Sit down with the principal and voice your concerns.

I'm willing to try it. I would stay involved and help the staff any way i could...my wife is not on board though. She's talked to too many people who have bad shit to say about our assigned elementary

Public schools are going to teach your child to pass a multiple choice standardized test. That is what the whole curriculum is based around. Traditional methods of study, such as writing essays and research papers, are going to be neglected or outright eliminated. Why are they going to waste educational time on something that will not be on the standardized test? But then when your child enters college, they are going to be expected to know how to write essays and research papers right away. Because many college students lack this proper training, they have to take remedial English classes and often struggle to learn concepts that should have been started in middle school and improved upon in high school.

In a private school, whether religious or not, because they are not necessarily constrained to performance on a standardized test, you get more of a traditional education that involves reading books, writing papers, and solving complex math problems.

All kids are different and they all deal with things differently. Lots of that have to do with how you, the parent, instill your ideology into them. We all get what we want to out of the things we interact with...school is no different. And regardless, its kindergarten, not 10th grade. Dont overthink it too much is my point...

yea, jewish schools got a high success rate. mostly conservative jewish schools .. a lot more relaxed than catholic schools, so students usually dont get all uptight and weird.

This is laughable but also a legitimate question to ask. Or just ask to see their curriculum and the standards they will be teaching. One of our family friends retired several years ago from teaching high school biology at a Catholic school. She taught evolution. She said there is just too much evidence to ignore it. If the school is not teaching that the Bible is full of figurative language and stories and instead interpret it literally from cover to cover, then they are just as stupid as the Muslims who interpret the Koran literally and kill innocent people because of their own interpretations.
