probably because the tofu wasnt really hot and salted, which would increase whats going on with the tongue probably. like you ever eat something really hot with just some pepper and barely any hot sauce but its heavily salted and for some reason that shit destroys your tongue and seems like way hotter than its supposed to be? probably something like that

Lol i worked at marie callenders in walnut creek for about a month or two also... i tried doing the server thing but it turned out i sucked at it. I never cared about the menu enough to remember it, and i remember i spilt red wine on some old ladys white shirt cuz i always filled them to the brim, i also spilt hot coffee on some old dude lol
