I disagree with this fully. One of the main ideologies behind death and religion (gods), is you (soul) continue on somewhere else, whether that be "heaven/hell". In fact its the driving force behind all real world religions, and at least one of the main ideologies of the "7 gods" or whatever bullshit they peddle in the show.

Wouldn't say all religions. Some schools of Buddhism believe there is no eternal soul and that everything has a beginning and an ending, but the process is what is eternal. Some schools of Taoism as well, ""In Taoism, life and death are merely two aspects of reality, the unchanging Tao. Death is simply a transformation from being to non-being; from yang to yin." As for the show/books, there are a lot of different religions don't know exactly what they all believe.

Sorry, i was referring to the shitty religions like Christians, Muslims, and Jews (I give a pass to Buddhists because, well, laughing [Chinese] Buddah is goddamned adorable). I honestly dont consider Taosim a school of religion and quite frankly many of what they practice actually makes real world sense.

Kind of sucks that Alliser Thorne had to go. He was a pretty bad ass character. Ultimately he couldn't see the bigger picture though. It was kind of surprising that even after Hardhome he still just didn't get it. I mean they basically just betrayed Jon before it was even fully explained just how serious that shit was. Or maybe it was explained, but he just flat out blinded by his hate of the wildlings and couldn't accept that it's now a fight for the survival of all men and just how stacked the odds are against him. I don't know.. I just kind of was hoping he wouldn't have been one of the ones to betray John and that he'd finally get it. Guess that's just a testament to that guys acting skills, wanted him to stick around til the end

Yeah Alliser was hella "old school" in terms of his beliefs and loyalties and i get WHY he did what he did to Jon. Problem is Jon, in the big picture, is right. I dont think Alliser fully understood what was going to happen and his hard-nosed "fuck the wildlings" attitude was too embedded. Jon doesn't have the same experiences as Alliser and that is because, mostly, due to his much younger age and much more open-mind.

the way he went out was pretty badass. He was like fuck it, I lost, you won, but I still believe what I believe, and he snuck in a "Lord Snow" comment, still refusing to call him lord commander up till the bitter end.

He couldn't get past the wildings. They've been enemies for a thousand years or whatever. A lot of their men, their friends and brothers were killed by Wildings. I don't think the show explained this part well but Thorne and others never saw the white walkers, they never saw the army of dead so as far as they were concerned Jon was full of shit or exaggerating it.

Good point. Obviously the actors are all mostly older than in the books but iirc on the show they mentioned Jon being the youngest in history....I think Sam mentioned it last season.

It's good they did that though...I imagine a 13 year old daenerys getting plowed by Khal Drago wouldn't be received well lol

Everyone made great points. Yeah it's been awhile since i read the books and tbh i forgot a lot of the feelings around that time. It was always kind of heavily emphasized how terrible the wildlings are and how what Snow was about to do / did was like the most treasonous dishonorable worst thing he could possibly do. I don't even think he was at Hardhome during the wildlings massacre now that i thought about it. And I'm pretty sure i felt like he really fucked up in the books. In the show we're kind of blinded by dramatic irony / the privilege of knowing what Snow sees and knows, plus we kind of root for him, so it's easy to forget just how traitorous bringing the wildlings in was. Plus the show made a lot of the wildlings likeable and even did sone emotional manipulative stuff like having the wildlings children at Hardhome and that scene with the mother and her kids etc

Had to duck out on social media for two weeks while I was in Europe without fucking HBO Go. Just got caught up with everything. I LOVE how they're moving the storyline ahead, but does anybody else feel like its executed real shitty? Jon Snow's acting, the fucking Sword of the Morning just spinning swords around in his hand like a fucking weed-wacker, young Ned Stark looking more like a young Loras, Tommen's ugly fucking face, etc.

I still think it would have been way funnier if GrrM and D&D just forgot about Rickon and finished the series without addressing it.

All I know is the next time I have a one night stand, I'm just gonna bust, pick my clothes up off the floor, tell her "my watch has ended" like a G and head for the door.

I thought it was awesome. They had to show how badass Dayne was, since he was arguably the greatest swordsman of all time according to GRRM, so I loved it. They actually did show his sword Dawn too :

In the books it's a great sword made of a meteorite (falling star) that is supposedly very light in contrast to regular steel, and that it has a pale white glow, so perhaps that would look weird on film. In any event, they certainly got the point across that he was a pure badass and that Ned would have been a goner if not for Howland Reed. Sean Bean is kinda weird looking maybe they couldn't find a young actor that resembled him, which is often the case on TV/movies when they do flashbacks with younger different actors. At least they had the same hair style lol

At this point I think d&d just read thru all the Dan theories & mined them for this season. I mean I think a fair amount are on point & what grmm was doing but they're in over their head & want to please the fan base more so than trying to keep the quality up. I'm not hyped but clegane bowl will prolly happen just cuz there's demand for it. Idk about Tyrion targ but I feel like any of the well known theories are likely gonna happen cuz d&d have nothing of substance to add themselves.

It's just kinda nitpicking imo I think the point was to show how badass he was and the scene was actually filmed really well. Two swords one sword it's minor detail. I'm sure if the books had him have two swords and the show changed it to one sword everyone would be like omg how can they change such an epic dual wielding swordsman to one sword totally ruined will not watch again!

Not so much nitpicking - just one of a few examples of how I notice that the quality of the show seems a little off this season. I could be totally on my own here, since I never heard anyone else agree with me. I also watched both episodes in Amsterdam and basically blacked out.
