lol I'm like level 8 getting mopped up from wandering around and getting in battles i need to build more shit in my settlements and level up
you can definitely get overpowered doing the settlements but it takes a lot and lot of time. it's basically just like the Skyrim Hearthfire DLC... actually I heard that was basically the Fallout 4 settlement system in its earliest roots. That same super addiction slow progression is balanced just right, to where you feel like you're constantly strengthening while sinking all your time and resources. Eventually you start breaking through and get really strong, like in Skyrim Hearthfire if you spent like 10 hours building your house from scratch eventually you end up with unlimited potion and enchanting supplies and as much money as you want to take the time getting, and get real buff.

same thing. I upgraded to 51 D Prism Power armor my second time out with power armor i cleared two whole buildings full of enemies in like ten minutes basically just mobbing through with some kind of buff shotgun with a Star symbol on it and blasting everything up close with no problems

accidentally spent a perk in the agility tree cause i thought my combat rifle counted as a rifle based on just the pic of the perk lol, but it applies for anything Fully Automatic. i actually wanted the perk in the strength or maybe perception tree for "Non-Automatic Scoped Rifles". it seems to apply to anything two handed and semi-automatic; the combat rifle and even the shotgun I'm using. I dunno the perks seem worded weird and i think they're using the wrong real world gun terminology or just using it in a weird way. "Non-Automatic" had me thinking, "well ok... so like, bolt Rifles? Muskets?" And im not sure if the Sniper Perk is working with my combat rifle and reflex sight, or the Shotgun with reflex sight, or if the weapons would work but with a different scope, or if the scope doesn't matter but it's not applying to the weapons, or what. id rather be using a couple of weapons utilizing up with multiple perks not using multiple weapons with a different set of perks applied to each one wish i could reset my build lol

I've done barely any quests but got four places with 10+ ppl each and 100+ defense, with about 4-6 advanced water purifiers each. i basically got stuck in this loop where i go to my biggest places collect all the water, then go trade like 400-600 purified waters at diamond city for expensive components. Then ill build up a new settlement all at once. Start it with water and a radio tower and 24 beds right off the bat. Then get 4ppl farming 24 total food, and get like 5-10 ppl working at scavenging stations.

My shits some brutal settlements if there's no body of water for advanced purifiers lol... No water means sleeping bags tightly packed in metal shacks, usually one choice of food, a buncha cheap ground pumps, and like 10 cheap turrets and im gone. If there's plenty of water ill do my best to wall everything off, use real beds, space everything nice, have a variety of crops, and set up a defense that looks nice and is more efficient

Anyway im stuck in a loop where im constantly getting water and selling and buying im level 24 and i swear probably 20 of those levels came from just settlement building and trading lol.
Nice, glad the water purifier tips worked out for u. I haven't actually built that many, I usually get 50-75 bottles of water when I check, sometimes around 100 if I wait long enough, I should build some more purifiers but I always end up fucking around making shit pretty. I have this cool area on a second level of my fortress with a bar, pool tables, placing objects everywhere. All the settlers go up there at night and hang out after their slave labors are complete for the day lol. Also spent way more time than I should have creating a metal building specifically for my five sets of power armor, which I never use lol.

After all of these hours at Sanctuary Hills I just discovered a hidden bunker behind one of the houses, I'm sure everyone found this place on day one but it had some gold bars and other materials.

yeah i noticed at The Slog i had like 20 defense and no exclamation point on defense, then once i built up all that water even like 50+ defense isn't enough lol. And now that I notice it even like 110+ at Sanctuary isn't enough. Can't wait to get this next rank of the Science perk and just throw down like 5 missile launchers and some Shotgun turrets lol

yeah, where is this hidden bunker.
You know where your characters real house is, where the game started? It's the house to the right of it (if your standing on the street in front of your house looking at it, house to the right), in the backyard you'll notice a cellar door on the ground, you can open it and to inside. Blew my mind lol

Yeah I haven't got the missile launchers yet. I'm lightweight disappointed that the booby traps have to be repaired each time they go off, but at least it's only like 3 steel or whatever.

does having different settlements start beef with other ones
Nah they are all cool because you recruit them under the Minuteman banner, so they essentially join up with you and thr minutemen or at least are allies.

Finch Farm, there is a super mutant hang out near by, I've seen the entire finch farm settlement go over and wipe out all the super mutants! I'm not sure if it was caused by some random encounter that set up a fight or what.

Also seen a settler commit suicide, had a suicide not and all.

at sanctuary do enemies only come from that bridge? i feel like things would be way more efficient and look badass if i put a bunch of traps and turrets focused in that area

They can also come from the rear and cross the river. So essentially they can come from any direction. As long as your defense is up its not a problem and also they hardly get raided since its so heavily fortified raiders are like fuck this shit. I was at another settlement, doing some random building up a few stories, all of a sudden I hear an explosion, a bunch of super mutants were raiding tearing shit up. This settlement had its defense way up so I was just sitting their thinking I'll snipe them, beastly settlers fucked them all up before I get even get a shot off. No problem. Another settlement though, defense was weak like a 3, again Super Mutants, they fucked my settlement up, suffered a few casualties. I don't know if this was a result of that or not but a couple days later I went back there and the settlers were having a funeral (this only happened once so it may have been unrelated but the timing of it all was perfect).

Fuck building shit is gonna keep me busy just wasted like half hour and didn't even really do shit where the hell do you pick up your supplies like from the purifier and food
At your work bench. Walk up to it and press Square for Transfer. All of the junk and materials will be there of course but of you toggle through, go to Aid and any surplus of water and food will be there. If you just built it u may need to wait a game day (just sleep on a bed for a set amount of time if u don't want to actually wait).

My electricity wiring looks like a spider web it's horrible.I need better building planning. I've also been getting ideas and tips from r/fo4. I seem to be in a perpetual cycle of caps for ammo.

r/falloutsettlements is specifically for building shit.

I always get inspired by something cool, then attempt to make something as cool, which always looks like shit lol

But the crucial piece of knowledge for building is wood>floors and use the one with concrete. Use that as your foundation and everything will clip onto it easy. Its cool cus it will go almost anywhere. Once you get one in place all the rest clip on.
