So in other words he doesn't really care about boxing and this is all business to him.

OK, I got it now pimp.
Not sure, I'm not Bernard Hopkins. I'm sure he cares a great deal about boxing. He was one of the few boxers that had the balls to testify in front of congress for the Ali act. He's one of the only active fighters that stepped up to the plate and defended the rights of boxers. He was a strong advocate for fighters’ rights. He knows a lot more about the Ali Act than you and I and he has inside knowledge of what's been going on behind doors (we don't) so there very well be more to it than just his stake in GB.

Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao
.

Manny Pacquiao (L) and Floyd Mayweather share a laugh after their fight on Saturday. They'll really be laughing if the trends for their pay-per-view sales hold up. (Esther Lin/Showtime)

Generally for a major pay-per-vew fight, sales on cable systems throughout the country account for 55 to 65 percent of the total. It's more often in the 60 percent range, with satellite systems usually accounting for 35 percent of the sales and telephone companies making up the rest.

Yahoo Sports on Thursday learned sales figures for the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight on DirecTV and Dish Network, as well as AT&T's uVerse and Verizon's FIOS services. Those add up to 2.25 million sales, which even without one sale from a cable company customer would make it tied for the second-highest-selling pay-per-view of all time.

DirecTV sold 1.15 million pay-per-views, while Dish's number was 500,000. The telephone companies combined for 600,000. Combined, that is 2.25 million already. If cable systems wound up being 60 percent of the total, that would mean the final figure is a mind-boggling 5.625 million.

Mayweather has already participated in the top two best-selling pay-per-view fights of all time, but their totals have combined for 4.73 million. The 2007 match with Oscar De La Hoya stands No. 1, with 2.48 million sales. The 2013 Mayweather-Canelo Alvarez bout sold 2.25 million.

If cable hits 60 percent of total sales and Mayweather-Pacquiao winds up doing 5.625 million, it would exceed Nos. 1 and 2 on the list by 895,000 sales.

Any promoter would be thrilled with sales of 895,000, given that would mean it's one of the top 40 pay-per-views ever. According to Yahoo Sports research, the top 10 boxing PPVs of all time, excluding Mayweather-Pacquiao, are:

Oscar De La Hoya-Floyd Mayweather, 2007, HBO, 2.48 million
Floyd Mayweather-Canelo Alvarez, 2013, Showtime, 2.25 million
Lennox Lewis-Mike Tyson, 2002, HBO & Showtime, 1.98 million
Evander Holyfield-Mike Tyson II, 1997, Showtime, 1.98 million
Mike Tyson-Evander Holyfield I, 1996, Showtime, 1.59 million
Floyd Mayweather-Miguel Cotto, 2012, HBO, 1.5 million
George Foreman-Evander Holyfield, 1991, 1.45 million
Oscar De La Hoya-Felix Trinidad, 1999, HBO, 1.4 million
Floyd Mayweather-Shane Mosley, 2010, HBO, 1.38 million
Mike Tyson-Peter McNeeley, 1995, Showtime, 1.35 million

It's hard to understand exactly how this fight took off the way it did. Yes, it was hyped for five-plus years and, yes, the fighters were still regarded as the two best in the world at the time they met. But the numbers coming in are so out of whack that it's almost impossible to explain.

All it means, at the end of the day, is that the fighters are going to wind up splitting up even more money than originally believed.

LOL @ 5.6 million ppv buys, that's ridiculously insane especially at $100.

All the numbers they were calculating before was based off if it did 3 million buys. So Mayweather would get, say $120 million off that, Pacquiao $80-$90 million. So it's 5.6 million you do the math.

Canelo vs GGG will break it! Once Mayweather is out Canelo will take back the Mexican Holidays and it will be on.
HERESY @HERESY B Hop also wanted to fight Stevenson and maybe won that fight and gotten bigger money to fight Kovalev! Haymon was trying to fuck over B Hop. And don't forget, GBP was the promotional company that Haymon worked under. Now, who does he work under? Now I guess they also want to know what his role is as an advisor because he has too much control over his fighters

There's a reason why Floyd fights on Mexican holidays. Or what, is it by coincidence that he just happens to fight on those days. Now just imagine if Canelo fights and not only beats Cotto, but destroys him. Then GGG is offered a ppv fight vs Ward and GGG wins that one. A year or so from now we will see the most action packed fighters collide for the 160 title on a Mexican holiday. And both are extremely loved by Mexicans. It's gonna take some time to hype it up like this past fight, but like Floyd said,"It's all about timing."

Canelo was a part of the 3rd most watched and second grossing selling ppv event in history. GGG is one of HBO's most watched fighters and it keeps growing. Now Canelo is on HBO and that fight can easily be made. GGG vs Ward is bound to be ppv because of GGG. Put that event in LA or vegas and you will see big numbers. 500k tops but still good numbers. That, by then, would make GGG the #1 p4p man in boxing. Canelo will retain the 160lb title that GGG never had a chance to get and will step back down to 160 to get it. On a Mexican holiday it will sell, especially in LA or Vegas. The only way it can get insane numbers is if they wait til 2017. It can't happen too soon because the hype has to be there for Canelo to get another shot at being legit #1 p4p again

Bruh!

Canelo vs GGG would do great numbers surely but it ain't breaking Pacquiao vs Floyd LOL!!!

Mayweather is the most popular boxer in America.
Pacquiao is the second most popular in America AND he has a huge Filipino fan base behind him. Huge.

Canelo is a big Mexican star.
GGG is a BOXING star (we are a small community). He's from Kazakhstan, he doesn't have a huge nationalistic fan base in America supporting him like Pacquiao does with Filipinos. GGG doesn't have a country behind him (there are like 500 Kazakh Americans).

Not sure why I'm even explaining this lol
