It's his name in reverse. In Cuba it became popular to name their children in reverse and all types of weird shit. His dad is Reinaldo. He named his son the reverse, Oldaneir Solis.

I didn't even realize that Reinaldo spelled backwards. We do have a bunch of ridiculous names so I'm just used to weird shit. Some of my cousins have the goofiest names.

Whatever his name is it was an extremely disappointing performance.

Yeah he's a massive disappointment. Just watching his fights in the amateurs like him fucking up David Haye, so talented. I think he was 200 pounds or less in that fight, can't remember exactly but obviously the opposite of what he looks like now. Not too surprising though I remember reading an interview where he was saying he doesn't even like boxing, just a job.

Yeah, I don't blame them much. These guys are basically put in camps for the amateur system since youth. I can't imagine it's easy for them to come to the states with all the temptation and freedom to do whatever, whenever plus immediate financial success.

Since Cotto turned down Golovkin, here are the guys HBO has apparently approved for Golovkin for May:

Monroe is on Twitter saying he got it. I like Monroe so I'd rather it be Johnson and let Monroe get a bit more experience first, he's not ready.

After this Golovkin will try to enforce his mandatory against Cotto assuming Cotto doesn't lose to whichever welterweight he's fighting, and if he doesn't get that he'll try to unify for a summer fight, Lemieux also with or without a belt, and fight again December.

Heiland would be the best bet there. The WBC billed Macklin Vs. Heiland as the next eliminator for the WBC. If Cotto doesn't fight Golovkin and the interim title becomes the full title Heiland will likely get elevated to mandatory. May as well get him out of the way while you're waiting for another fight.

I wouldn't mind Monroe much tbh. He's not all that young and I'd like to see Golovkin against a slick southpaw.

bob_arum_pacquiaoIf you believe the Floyd Mayweather Jr. detractors who suggest he carefully calculated the moment he decided to finalize a deal to fight his most significant rival in decades, maybe throughout his entire career, Manny Pacquiao, then you agree that Mayweather Jr. is hoping to capitalize off of a weaker version of the Pacquiao he would’ve faced off against in years past.

We can’t be completely sure if this theory holds water and whether or not Manny’s age and presumed decline factored into Mayweather’s decision to finally take the fight. But whatever decline Pacquiao has suffered in the past 5-6 years it is safe to assume Mayweather has experienced a similar drop in skills.

For the Mayweather fans that are banking on their fighter winning against a less effective version of Pacquiao, those same fans must realize that Mayweather is taking the same kind of gamble.

Bob Arum, Top Rank CEO, and Pacquiao’s promoter believes that Mayweather has made a mistake if he assumes Pacquiao’s decline will be his ultimate advantage. In fact, Arum, in an interview published on Hustle Boss’ YouTube channel, said that he likes Pacquiao’s chances to beat Mayweather on May 2nd just as much as he did 5 years ago when the initial negotiations first broke down.

“I like Manny’s chances; I’ve always liked his chances. I’ve always thought that Manny has the style and the ability to beat Floyd, and I certainly feel that way now,” Arum said in the Hustle Boss interview.

Pacquiao has had a couple strong showings in his last few outings, despite the lack of confidence that some have had in his opposition, and he is heading into the Mayweather fight with at least a little momentum.

Mayweather, on the other hand, struggled so much in his first fight with Marcos Maidana that he was forced to fight a rematch in September to further cement his first victory. I feel that the first Maidana fight was blown out of proportion as Mayweather was never in any jeopardy of actually losing the fight.

Still, there are some indicators that suggest he is vulnerable now more than ever. Arum believes those indicators are further evidence that Mayweather is prime for a loss come May 2nd.

“I think that Maidana showed that Floyd is becoming a lot more vulnerable than he was because as you age the first thing that goes is your legs and Floyd doesn’t have the mobility that he had before. Also, as you age your reflexes are not what they were when you were a younger man.”

Shawn Porter PHOTO 2Shawn “Showtime” Porter is hoping to land a quick return bout on the undercard of Mayweather-Pacquiao in May after his PBC on Spike TV event in March.

Porter (24-1-1, 15 KO) is slated to fight against Roberto Garcia (36-3, 23 KO) on Spike TV’s first-ever Premier Boxing Champions show on March 13 in Ontario, California. Should he make it past Garcia, Porter says he is willing to take a fight seven weeks later on the May 2nd undercard in Vegas.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Porter said regarding Mayweather-Pacquiao in an interview with ThaBoxingVoice. He said that he texted his father and trainer Ken Porter when the fight was announced, “I would much rather be apart of that fight instead of just being a fan.”

Fans all over the world are excited to watch Mayweather-Pacquiao, an event six years in the making. However for Porter, just watching the show isn’t good enough, he wants to be a part of it.

“I’m a fighter, I’m really not a boxing fan,” Porter said. “I love to do it more so then watch it . . . Lord willing, if there’s anyway: We’ll get on that show, and we’ll be apart of what’s going on.”

Before the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight was signed, Porter said that he tried to not let the negotiations between them distract him. Now that the fight is on, Porter is using it as motivation.

In this era, top fighters usually train for eight weeks before a fight; Porter wants to fight twice in that amount of time. As far as Garcia goes, Porter insists he’s not overlooking his opponent.Shawn+Porter+Kenneth+Porter+Shawn+Porter+Kell+cnDBBgDIk6bl

“We’re not going to ignore this fight or downplay it or do any underestimating, anything like that,” Porter said. “My head is in the right place so I can move on to bigger and better things.”

Although Porter was a fellow champion at welterweight, he lost his title to Kell Brook in August and has yet to land a rematch to regain his belt. Aside from Brook, the only other titleholders in the division are Mayweather and Pacquiao, who are set to unify.

If Porter can look good on the thirteenth and land a fight on the May 2nd card, he may put himself in position for a rematch with Brook or a fight with either the winner or the loser of Mayweather-Pacquiao.

All of these are possibilities for Porter, who began his career at junior middleweight and has now made a name for himself as one of the top welterweights and athletes in the sport. As far as opponents go, Porter says he’d be willing to fight any tough opponent, particularly one with a name.

“It does not matter, we didn’t really speak names but obviously you’re on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather it’s going to be something big,” Porter said. “And you want to look good against a good fighter not against someone who nobody knows.”

As far as who he thinks is going to win the long awaited mega-fight, Porter says his lips will remain shut. Porter feels he is “not worthy” to decide who is best amongst the two. However, He did break down their last two fights.

“Looking at them both, you definitely see ups and downs in both of their fights. With Floyd Fighting Marcos Maidana twice he looked great in the second one, okay in the first one.” Porter said, “And then we’ve seen what Manny’s been through with Marquez and then you know coming back from that (with) Brandon Rios, he’s been real sharp.”

Living and training out of Las Vegas, Porter is a humble fighter who hasn’t let his success in the ring change his character. He’s young in the sport, only 27 years old, but has amassed respect from fighters and experts who all agree that his talent and abilities make for a dynamic fighting machine.

“This is a great place to be in boxing right now, I’m in Las Vegas, I’m having fun. I love doing what I do, and I’m excited to do it March 13th.”

Zab Judah‘Dontae’s Boxing Nation’ and welterweight veteran Zab Judah(42-9, 29KO’s) looked ahead to this weekend’s much anticipated ‘Premier Boxing Champions’ show on NBC. Topped by Keith Thurman(24-0, 21KO’s) as he defends his WBA World welterweight title against Robert Guerrero(32-2-1, 18KO’s).

Judah has been in there with the very best the sport has to offer over the years, including Floyd Mayweather, Danny Garcia and Miguel Cotto just to name a few. Despite an obvious admiration for the champ, he believes the way this fight plays out is very much dependant on how the veteran involved chooses to approach things.

“It’s a good fight; it depends on which Guerrero shows up. Keith Thurman’s a young guy, he’s a young killer right now you know, I like him, he reminds me of myself coming up. Everybody’s head got to go, and I like that about him. It just depends what Robert shows up. If the Robert of old shows up it could be a very interesting fight.”

What I take from this is Zab wanting to see the version of Guerrero, who garnered so much praise for his performances down at lightweight. Against Joel Casamayor and Michael Katsidis, raking the southpaw left from far out then closing down with combinations. Little steps to the side to offer different angles to his opponent, and, of course, his willingness to trade.

He has been a different man since climbing up to the welterweight class. The springs in his step seem to have rusted, and his willingness to trade has evolved into his favoured style of fighting. He is too content to exchange punches in an effort to out-will his opponents, evident in his wars with Andre Berto and Yoshihiro Kamegai, who I have mentioned in past articles to prove this very same point. Based on these, two of his most recent performances, I can only assume he will choose to fight in the same manner again this time.

If he stays still against a murderous puncher like Thurman, he simply will not be able to withstand the force of the blows coming his way. He will need to be the ‘old’ Guerrero Judah mentioned and moved around, at least enough to offset Thurman’s feet as he tries to plant them and swing away.

Judah still feels Guerrero has a fighting chance of victory in this one.

“You can’t count Robert out, you can’t just say Robert in a non-factor, he’s a good factor in the fight too. If he shows up ready, yeah.”

But he if he shows up ready to take Thurman’s best shot and walk through it this could turn out to be one very messy evening. I don’t feel Guerrero is a fighter you put away with one shot, at least from what we’ve seen so far, but Thurman is accurate enough to keep teeing off and hit the target more often than not. Then it turns into a sustained beating from a heavy hitter if Guerrero cannot deter him -with power that has rescinded almost as quickly as his footwork- and that will be difficult to watch.

Against Alvarez Kirkland will be trained by Gerald Tucker, a former boxer who was just 5-0-1 as a professional. Kirkland's manager Michael Miller has admitted to being baffled by Kirkland's decision.

"If you're not going to train with Ann at least train with someone who has experience," Miller said. "If you're going to change trainers, train with someone who has trained top fighters. But I tend not to get into that stuff. I haven't asked him why he isn't training with Ann, but she's puzzled too."

Gabe Rosado and Curtis Stevens are two fighters who never shy away from a challenge, even if it means going in as a prohibitive underdog against a monster like Gennady Golovkin. It was hardly a surprise that they agreed to face each other, though with a twist as their April 4 clash at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas comes under the auspices of Big Knockout Boxing (BKB) rather than a traditional boxing match.

BKB made its debut last August, with Rosado scoring a thrilling knockout over Bryan Vera in the headlining act. The bout served as Rosado’s lone win since September ’12, though it doesn’t count against his official record in boxing, where he is winless in his last five starts.

In addition to the confidence booster he gained with the knockout win over Vera last summer, Rosado gains a leg up on any other boxer looking to give BKB a try. The Philly native believes it to be a key factor heading into his upcoming showdown with Stevens.

“You can definitely put the experience factor on my side, performing in BKB already,” Rosado mentioned during a recent conference call to promote the event. “I’m familiar with the ring. I’m just familiar with the surroundings of it.

“But, at the end of the day, being a true fighter, once the bell rings, you kind of lose yourself in the fight. You don’t think too much of it; at least I didn’t. Once the bell rung, it didn’t feel no different. I just had to fight.”

Stevens makes his BKB debut in the April 4 headliner, and is still familiarizing himself with the differences from the world of boxing he’s breathed, eaten and lived for the past 10+ years. So far he likes what he’s discovered, and believes the format to be perfectly suited to his stalking in-ring style.

“BKB is just two minutes. Regular boxing is three minutes. So, when I heard it was two minutes, I’m like, oh, it’s just like the amateur days - you get in, you get out,” Stevens believes. “So, I think that’s just going to rewind me back into time when I was 17, 16, 15 (years old). You just got to get in there and just put the pain on them. There ain’t much more to do.”

Ever the BKB veteran, Rosado felt the need to correct his forthcoming opponent.

“It’s not like the amateurs. It’s nothing like the amateurs,” Rosado quipped at the claim.

The bout will headline an independent Pay-Per-View telecast.

Never one to have been particularly fond of Pacquiao, including some veiled steroid allegations a few years ago, Malignaggi sees Mayweather as the clear favorite.

&#8220;I think Floyd has too many weapons for Manny at the end of the day you can talk about &#8216;can Manny make this adjustment or that adjustment and how motivated Manny is but Manny Pacquiao is who he is, and he&#8217;s not gonna change in the next two or three months&#8230; I just don&#8217;t think he&#8217;s varied enough to give Floyd much trouble.&#8221;

Of course, many of us know that Malignaggi is now an &#8220;Al Haymon guy&#8221; and as such, has become the de facto mouthpiece for spreading the merits of fellow Haymon guys and the Haymon brand. Paulie countered this perception by letting ThaBoxingVoice know that he&#8217;d prefer being wrong about the fight for the good of the sport.

&#8220;I kinda hope I am wrong man, because it&#8217;s such a much anticipated fight and so many fans that aren&#8217;t boxing fans will be tuning in that if it&#8217;s a dud you&#8217;re not gonna make any new fans&#8230; if you have a great fight on that night, all the people that don&#8217;t usually tune in for boxing that are tuning in for that night will wanna watch more boxing.&#8221;

I haven&#8217;t agreed with a lot that Malignaggi has had to say in recent years, but he&#8217;s right about that last point. This fight needs to be great. A major letdown in any form will cast a dark cloud over the renaissance I am expecting boxing to experience over the next few years.

Nationally televised boxing on major network television basking in the afterglow of an excellent Mayweather &#8211; Pacquiao super-fight would be a major boon to the sport. Unfortunately, although not unexpectedly, Malignaggi expects something a little less exciting.

&#8220;I hope that it is a great fight, but I don&#8217;t predict that it will be, I think Floyd wins it pretty handily, but we&#8217;ll see, we&#8217;ll see what happens.&#8221;

He should fight him though but doubt Haymon allows it since it would need to be on HBO. It would be interesting to see if juniors iron chin could last 12 rounds. That's the one thing he got from his dad.

photo: saul alvarez miguel cotto james kirkland floyd mayweather jr By Dan Ambrose: Oscar De La Hoya has already mapped out his flagship fighter Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s next fight after the James Kirkland fight on May 9th. If Canelo defeats Kirkland, then De La Hoya wants to match Canelo against Miguel Cotto and then Floyd Mayweather Jr.

For a fight between Canelo and Cotto to take place it’s going to require for Canelo to agree to a smaller slice of the pie, because the negotiations stalled recently over the purse split when Cotto and Canelo attempted to put a fight together.

“After Kirkland, then Cotto then he will probably gain a lot more experience for a rematch with Mayweather, and would be more interesting. Canelo is here for the long haul,” De La Hoya said via ESPN Deportes.

De La Hoya shouldn’t be counting his chickens before they’re hatched. For all we know, Canelo might not even make it past Kirkland, let alone get past Cotto to get to Mayweather. But even if Canelo does defeat Kirkland on May 9th, it’s still going to prove next to impossible for the red-headed Canelo to get a fight between him and Cotto negotiated.

For that fight to be signed, Canelo will need to be agreeable to taking a smaller purse split than the one he was asking for recently during their failed negotiations. It’s unclear what percentage of the purse split Canelo was asking for, but I wouldn’t be surprise if he was looking to get something in the neighborhood of a 55-45 split, with Cotto taking the slightly bigger split.

That’s a really high split for Canelo given that he’s not accomplished the same things that Cotto has with his career. Canelo’s biggest wins in his career are the controversial victories over Erislandy Lara and Austin Trout. I don’t really see those as wins for Canelo, because I thought he lost both of those fights.

“We still want Canelo-Cotto because it will be a great battle,” said De La Hoya. “It’ll be great for the Mexican-Puerto Rico rivalry like Chavez-Rosario and Sanchez-Gomez. The fight between Canelo and Cotto has to happen because the public demands it.”

I don’t think the boxing public is really demanding the Canelo vs. Cotto fight nearly as much as the public is asking for Canelo vs. Gennady Golovkin or Cotto vs. Golovkin. Those are the fights fans want to see.

One of the problems that keeps the Cotto-Canelo fight from being a big deal is that Cotto still hasn’t proven that he’s the top middleweight in the division yet. A lot of boxing fans see Golovkin as the legitimate champion at 160; whereas Cotto is seen as a paper champion due to him only beating an over the hill 39-year-old Sergio Martinez, who was coming off of a 14-month layoff and two surgeries on his right knee.

If Cotto were to face Golovkin and defeat him, then a fight between Cotto and Canelo would definitely be a big deal. Of course, Canelo still has unfinished business with Trout, Lara and Mayweather that he needs to take care of.

photo: miguel cotto gennady golovkin By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Freddie Roach is 100 percent certain that his fighter WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32 KOs) will beat WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29 KOs) if and when the two of them get around to facing each other in the future.

Roach says he&#8217;d like to train Cotto to defeat Golovkin, but he&#8217;s not the one who picks Cotto&#8217;s fights. That&#8217;s Gaby Penagaricano&#8217;s job, and unless he&#8217;s interested in making the Cotto-Golovkin fight, we probably will never get a chance to see it.

Cotto&#8217;s last two fights have come against and depleted Sergio Martinez and Delvin Rodriguez. In looking at those two fighters, it would seem that Golovkin doesn&#8217;t fit into Cotto&#8217;s plans, because he&#8217;s so dramatically different from the type of guys that Cotto is being matched up against at this late stage in his career.

&#8220;That&#8217;s up to Gaby Penagaricano; I have nothing to do with negotiations,&#8221; Roach said via RingTV.com. &#8220;I pick Miguel 100 percent to win that fight against Golovkin but I&#8217;m not part of negotiations of who he chooses. I do feel it&#8217;s a winnable fight. Gennady&#8217;s last fight, there were like 900 people there. It wasn&#8217;t that good a show; it was mediocre. Murray tried a little bit but I thought Golovkin should have ended it earlier.&#8221;

Roach is talking a lot of trash, but he&#8217;s also able to do so by him saying he&#8217;s not the guy that makes the fights for Cotto. That means that Roach can talk as much trash as he wants about Golovkin without having to worry about boxing fans pushing him hard to put the fight together between Cotto and Golovkin. It&#8217;s easy for Roach to take, but it means nothing unless he&#8217;s prepared to talk to Penagaricano to make the fight happen.

Cotto and Penagaricano are said to be considering the following fighters for Cotto&#8217;s next fight: 41-year-old Cornelius &#8220;K-9&#8221; Bundrage, Brandon Rios and Tim Bradley. Whichever guy gets picked out, he&#8217;ll be expected to move up to middleweight to take the fight, but at a likely catch-weight. None of those fighters are big names, and none of them would bring in a huge amount of traffic for a pay-per-view fight.

If Cotto chooses to fight one of them rather than Golovkin, then it&#8217;s going to take away the excuse for not fighting Golovkin. In the past, Golokvin was dismissed as a potential opponent for Cotto, because he wasn&#8217;t a big name and he didn&#8217;t bring in a lot of fan interest. But if Cotto and Penagaricano select Bundrage, Rios or Bradley, then it&#8217;s going to look like Cotto is flat out ducking the Golovkin fight, because none of them are big names.

The whole idea of ducking will be proven to be academic later on this year if Cotto chooses to vacate his WBC 160 pound title rather than defending it against his mandatory challenger Golovkin.

The World Boxing Council has already ordered that the winner of Cotto&#8217;s next fight will then have to fight Golovkin later this year. If Cotto chooses to vacate or let the WBC strip him of his title rather than fighting Golovkin, it&#8217;s going to look really bad for Cotto.
