Abortion is legal, yes. And people have to pay fines if they have more than 2 kids (if you first born is a girl, you can have a second child legally; also if you belong to an ethnic minority, you can have 2 kids). The times that people need to have many children that will give them money when they retire are over now. Having a kid in China is fuckin expensive. Take the kid to a playground in a mall etc., and it costs you 10 bucks and more...Not like back home where we have playgrounds on every street corner.

In other news China has surpassed the US as the number 1 economy in the world...
There’s much worrywarting over the new figures from the IMF telling us the fact that China is now the world’s number one economy in terms of size. The truth is though that, other than for collectors of statistical trivia, this really isn’t important. Perhaps on a par with wondering how Lady Gaga is going to dress next but no more than that. Because the whole idea of “an economy” as defined by the borders of a nation state is pretty arbitrary anyway and further, it matters a great deal more how many people that economy is spread over than it does the size of it. Luxembourg’s economy is considerably smaller than that of India but with 400,000 people not 1.4 billion who is living better?

That toxic real estate bubble though lol. When it pops chinas going to go back 50 years. If they complied with environmental laws and gave people basic human rights they'd be nowhere near as competitive. If they actually had to innovate vs copy they'd still be in the dark ages.

Sorry to say this, but you don't know what you are talking about.

I heard about this the other day. If I remember right we are averaging 1.9 kids per family. France is like 1.5 kids per family. Muslim families in northern Africa average 6 kids per family. So basically, your great grandchildren are going to be Muslim.
