Yep. Looks like WBA has ordered Danny Jacobs vs Fletcher for the "regular" title. I don't know who's worse, the WBA or WBC.

Didn't know that had happened. I normally don't care about all the random titles they create and I do believe they have their purposes (which is a longer and probably unnecessary rant). I absolutely HATE that title. I don't mind 4 major belts in a division because it creates excitement if people ever get together to unify them which may not be there otherwise, but there's just no need for a super world champion.

Have Jacobs/Fletcher fight for one of your many lesser belts and make it a mandatory fight to fight Golovkin.

What happened was this: some fucking how the WBA made Fletcher mandatory to Golovkin. I guess they have him ranked higher than Geale for some unknown reason. GGG and Geale were already in talks to fight, so they sent a request to the WBA to approve Geale. The WBA then decided to elevate GGG to "Super" champion, while still giving Fletcher the right to fight for the "regular" title. Totally retarted. But with that said, I'm very happy Golovkin is fighting Geale, and not forced to fight a pointless opponent like Fletcher.

I agree I'd much rather watch Golovkin/Geale over Fletcher/Golovkin. I don't mind the fights that get made I just don't like considering them a holder of one of the major belts, it's silly and in the case the trade off is you get a better fight, but they promoted Shumenov's belt to super world so they could give Braehmer another undeserved title by never having to beat a champion to get it. It's ridiculous.

For anyone that cares the PPV did 350,000 buys. In my eyes Thats pretty good considering many people thought this was a total mismatch (only in reality it turned out to be a mismatch the other way around ). Bob Arum says there are too many PPVs this year:

"The numbers were not great," said Arum, who is rehabilitating in Los Angeles after having knee replacement surgery last week. "All the numbers boxing has been getting on pay-per-view have been terrible. It's not disappointing; it just is what it is. There are too many (pay-per-view cards).

"Pay-per-view was always designed, as was closed circuit back in the day, for true super fights, not just very good fights. There have been pay-per-views every month and people resent the fact that they're asked to pay extra for anything halfway decent. Boxing pay-per-view numbers are down. Look at the (recent) numbers for the (Floyd) Mayweather and (Manny) Pacquiao fights. The UFC pay-per-view numbers are also down."

I agree that there's too many PPVs but Arum is the same guy that hosted a bunch of Juanma & Calderon cards on PPV when they were on top and when Juanma wasn't fighting on HBO when he had plenty of network at his disposal. I highly doubt those PPVs were putting out big numbers.

As for the Chagaev/Oquendo "title" fight, I hope Oquendo whips his ass to make them look stupid.

I think it really says a lot about Cotto's selling power at this point, because this was a big fight to most fight fans. I wonder how much streams are cutting into buys now though. Doesn't help that the undercard was horrible. I don't think Floyd/Canelo sells that well without Garcia/Matthysse. I know personally, that I told everyone who talked about the fight that was a casual fan that the Garcia/Matthysse fight would be better. Not sure how many other people did that and I'm not saying people bought it just for that fight, but maybe that swayed some people to buy it instead of going somewhere to watch it.

His next PPV will tell the story. Regardless of how the fight played out he was an underdog on the books and people largely thought he'd get washed. Plus for as good as Martinez is/was he was never really a "draw". You have to be able to pull in people that don't watch boxing on a regular boxing and I don't think Martinez ever did that.

If Cotto/Canelo takes place, which I'm hoping it doesn't because that'd likely mean Lara lost, I'd bet on solid PPV numbers.

I've never heard of a PPV doing well because of anything on the undercard. Floyd/Canelo did well because Floyd is a PPV monster and Canelo was an undefeated Mexican superstar.
