JOEL DIAZ SAYS TIMOTHY BRADLEY IS TRAINING LIKE "AN UNSTOPPABLE TRAIN" AS HE PREPARES FOR PACQUIAO REMATCH

"He is an unstoppable train. He don't have a limit; I have to limit him. I gotta tell him, 'Bro, you're done,'" stated world-class trainer Joel Diaz, who gave us an update on training camp for undefeated WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley. As they put the finishing touches on their game plan for the upcoming April 12th rematch with Manny Pacquiao, Bradley has been training like it's his last fight, according to Diaz.

"Timothy was training at 1:00, and at 3:00, we finished. So then, I went to my other gym to train my other fighters. I finished at 4:45. So then, I called Timothy's wife and I said, 'Where is Timothy?' She said, 'He's at the gym.' I said, 'Doing what?' She goes, 'I don't know.' So I go to check up on him and he's still not done," Diaz explained, recalling a recent day of training during a recent conversation with FightHype's own Percy Crawford. "From 1:00 to 4:55, he's still working out. I say, 'What are you doing?' He goes, 'Coach I'm good.' I said, 'No, you're not. You gotta reserve yourself.' This guy is unstoppable."

Diaz added, "Tim Bradley is unstoppable. He may not be the greatest fighter as far as what some consider to be the package of a fighter, but he has the determination, heart, and a lot of balls. That guy will not take no for an answer."

Pacquiao-Bradley II judges to receive intense scrutiny

Eyes will be on the three judges who will work the Manny Pacquiao-Timothy Bradley title rematch on April 12 (April 13, PHL time), all of whom were officially named on Wednesday by the Nevada Athletic State Commission.

Assigned to score the 12-round match for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight championship match at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas are veterans Glenn Trowbridge of Nevada, John Keane of England, and Michael Pernick of Florida.

The third man in the ring will be Kenny Bayless, the same official who counted Pacquiao out during his stunning sixth-round knockout loss at the hands of Juan Manuel Marquez two years ago.

The three judges are expected to be under the spotlight again following the controversy that marred the first Pacquiao-Bradley fight, which the American won by a controversial split decision.

Despite the Filipino boxing superstar seemingly in control of his 2012 match against Bradley, two of the judges - CJ Ross and Duane Ford - scored it in favor of the unbeaten American, with Jerry Roth seeing the bout in favor of Pacquiao, 115-113.

Ford is no longer actively judging fights, while Ross stepped away from the sport after she scored the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Saul Alvarez light-middleweight championship showdown even at 114-114, notwithstanding the obvious dominance of Floyd Jr.

“They're fine,” said Top Rank Promotions’ Bob Arum of the three judges handpicked for Pacquiao-Bradley II. “We gave both camps a list of the judges, and the fighters knocked off some of the judges. These judges and the referee were among those acceptable to both sides from the approved list.”

This will be the first time the three judges will be working a Bradley fight, although all of them have been previously involved in a Pacquiao bout.

Pernick recently worked on the eight-time world champion’s match with Brandon Rios, scoring it in favor of the Pacman, 120-108.

Keane on the other hand, had Pacquiao ahead by a point when Marquez pulled off the shocking sixth round knockout over his longtime rival in their 2012 showdown, while Trowbridge favored the Filipino by score of 116-112 over the Mexican during their 2011 meeting, which Pacquiao won by majority decision. - Gerry Ramos, SPIN

Pacquiao expects a 'better Tim Bradley'

MANILA – Filipino ring icon Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao expects to see an improved version of unbeaten American Timothy Bradley when they meet for the second time on April 12 in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao lost to Bradley when they first fought in June 2012, although majority of boxing analysts and fans observed he dominated the 12-round fight.

Bradley won a controversial split decision that some consider as among the worst in the history of the sport.

With just days to go before their rematch, Pacquiao held a media workout at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, where he told RingTV of his wish to face an improved Bradley.

"I'm expecting a better Tim Bradley than I fought in the first fight. He proved in his last two fights with (Juan Manuel) Marquez and Ruslan (Provodnikov) that he’s a better fighter now," said Pacquiao.

Bradley followed up his win against Pacquiao by surviving several near-knockouts to outpoint Provodnikov in March 2013, then beat Marquez via a split decision in October later that year.

"He proved his toughness against Ruslan. I'm prepared for that kind of fight," said Pacquiao. "If Bradley is more aggressive, it's good for me."

Pacquiao also said it's to his advantage that Bradley has been repeatedly questioning his level of motivation in the lead-up to the fight.

The American has said that Pacquiao no longer has the killer instinct that once made him the sport's pound-for-pound king.

"It helps when Tim Bradley says I don't have fire," said Pacquiao. "It inspires me to work hard and prove that I still have the killer instinct and aggressiveness."

Pacquiao's trainer, Freddie Roach, said activity will be the key for the rematch, and urged the Filipino to fight all three minutes of each round.

"I thought he did well in the first half of the fight, but then he coasted over the second half and only fought one minute of each round," Roach said of Pacquiao.

"In the (Brandon) Rios fight, I thought he was able to go back to being active for three minutes of each round," he added.

Roach also wants Pacquiao to take advantage of Bradley's tendency to get into wild exchanges when caught.

"Manny can cut the ring off, and get him against the ropes, and one thing about Bradley is that he will punch back if he gets hit. It’s in his nature," said the trainer. "He loves to exchange, and when he does, he swings a little wild."

"I think Manny can catch him during one of these exchanges," Roach said.

Left hook will stop Pacquiao - Bradley

By Abac Cordero, The Philippine Star

LOS ANGELES – The media came to see Timothy Bradley as he trained at the brick-walled Fortune Gym along the famous Sunset Boulevard.

The undefeated American was a gracious host, fielding every question thrown at him. Later on, he got up the ring, took off his shirt and flaunted his great physique.

Then he worked out with his trainer, Joel Diaz.

Bradley also vowed to knock Manny Pacquiao out and here’s how he intends to do it.

“I’m going to knock him out with the left hook,” he said.

“Not the right (hand) but the left hook. That’s what I’m going to knock him out with,” added the native of Indio, California with a ring record of 31 wins and 12 knockouts.

Bradley won a hotly-contested decision over Pacquiao in June 2012 and while he believes he deserved the win he feels he needs to prove it here.

The current holder of the WBO welterweight title said he trained hard for the fight that takes place on April 12 at the MGM Grand.

To him, it’s the only fight that matters.

“This is everything to me. Everything I’ve worked hard for in boxing. This is everything to me,” he said.

Bradley is on the eighth and last week of his training, and during his media day workout he declared himself fit and ready to face the heavy-handed Filipino.

Bradley said he can go 12 rounds “easy” in the coming fight because in training he did more than what’s needed to get him in top shape.

“I did 10-minute rounds with three different guys straight,” he said of his unusual training regimen that calls for just a 15-second break before a new sparring partner comes in.

“I get 15 seconds to drink water and boom right back on it and 15 seconds rest and boom another fresh guy comes in. It was so intense -- extremely new,” he told mediamen inside the dressing room.

Someone asked if it was possible that he over-trained for the fight,

“No,” was the quick reply.

“I had proper rest but it was a solid eight weeks. I’m ready to fight,” went on.

Bradley said this fight is all about redemption because people thought he lost the first fight even if he insists that he won eight of the 12 rounds.

The WBO called for a review of the fight with no intention of reversing the result, and the set of judges felt Pacquiao won.

“This is about me redeeming what I didn’t get in the first fight. I’m going to do whatever it takes,” he said.

“I was victorious but I felt like a loser. It’s because of what the people, the media, what you guys said,” Bradley added.

He wants the monkey off his back.

Roach plays mind games with Bradley, delivers ‘box of socks’

Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach sent Timothy Bradley a “box of socks” as the two camps continued their mind games less than a week before their rematch.

Pacquiao and Bradley enter the ring at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas USA, on April 12 as the Filipino sports idol takes a crack at Bradley’s World Boxing Organization welterweight title.

Roach sent a box of socks together with a letter to the Fortune Gym in Los Angeles, California, where the 31-year-old American was winding down his preparations for the fight.

“Is it really your feetal [sic] position that these injuries occurred because you did not wear socks?” Roach wrote to Bradley, according to reporter Ron Borges of the Boston Herald.com. “Though many members of the media think this excuse sounds like a hose job, I for one do believe you.”

“To me, you are boxing’s No.?1 sox symbol. Please think of me not as your arch nemesis but as your sole supporter. I hope the enclosed gift helps with the heeling process,” he said.
Roach said Bradley would have no excuse this time when he gets beaten up by Pacquiao.
Pacquiao is in his final phase of training at Roach’s Wildcard gym.

Bradley (31-0 win-loss record with 12 knockouts) had claimed that he got injured in his first bout with Pacquiao (55-5-2 slate with 38 knockouts) because he was not wearing socks.

Many fans and fight experts believe Pacquiao was robbed by the split decision loss to Bradley two years ago, but Bradley is convinced that he won.

He said Pacquiao had lost the killer instinct.

“When was the last time you saw him knock somebody out?” Bradley told Borges. “He had a guy sitting in front of him—a tough guy [Rios]—and he couldn’t get rid of him.”

“In our fight I had two wounded feet and he couldn’t take me out. Manny Pacquiao used to come in blazing and knock guys out. He didn’t mess around. Now it looks like he’s more compassionate towards his opponents and that’s not good for boxing.”
