FAIRFIELD -- Fairfield police arrested an 18-year-old man this morning after they say he bit the nose of his infant child off during a fit of frustration from the infant crying.
Joshua Cooper was booked into Solano County Jail on suspicion of child cruelty and aggravated mayhem.
According to police, dispatchers were called just after 8 a.m. this morning by a hysterical woman stating that her infant child was bleeding from the nose. When officers arrived at the apartment, in the 1000 block of Alaska Avenue, they found the one-month-old infant bleeding from the face.
Cooper, the baby's 17-year-old mother, and numerous other family members were present, when police arrived, according to police.

The infant was initially transported to North Bay Medical Center for medical treatment. Doctors at North Bay Medical Center determined that the infant's nose had been severed and the child had possible head trauma. As a result, the infant was transferred to Oakland Children's Hospital. Doctors at Oakland Children's Hospital determined that the infant had suffered a skull fracture, a brain hemorrhage, and one third of the child's nose had been severed off. The child is currently in stable condition.
Police said their criminal investigation determined that Cooper had bitten the child's nose off in frustration but the investigation continues to determine how the infant sustained the skull fracture and brain hemorrhage.
Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to call the Fairfield Police Department's Major Crimes Unit at 428-7600, the 24-hour Tip Line at 428-7345 or Crime Stoppers at 644-7867.
