Guerrero wants Pacquiao next

robert guerrero By Dan Ambrose: Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-2-1, 18 KO’s) isn’t satisfied with having talked his way into a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and promptly lost it badly by a 12 round unanimous decision last May; Guerrero now wants Manny Pacquiao next, and he thinks that boxing fans really want to see this fight take place. Guerrero hasn’t fought since his defeat against Mayweather, though, and he may be facing an uphill battle in trying to talk his way into a Pacquiao fight.
Guerrero talked a good game leading up to the Mayweather fight, but he looked bad and was mostly a walking punching bag for Mayweather to land his lead right hands against. Guerrero had promised an exciting fight, but he failed to deliver. Now he wants to fight Manny so that he’ll have a chance to fight the other mega-star in boxing. The question is will Pacquiao and his promoter Bob Arum give Guerrero a shot?
Guerrero told the Philippine Star “Neither of us will be running. Everyone knows the fight will have fireworks. And I do believe the fans want to see us fight so they can make their own comparison…You want to see an explosive fight. When Mayweather feels threatened, he gets on his bike and runs. When Manny feels threatened, he fights toe-to-toe.”
This fight shouldn’t happen. Guerrero needs to get in the back of the line and start proving himself again, because the Mayweather fight made him look really bad. And the wins that Guerrero got in order to get the Mayweather fight – Selcuk Aydin and Andre Berto – are no longer relevant in today’s welterweight division. Those guys are no longer factors in the 147 lb. division. Guerrero needs to beat the likes of Keith Thurman, Kell Brook, Amir Khan, and Marcos Maidana before he gets another big payday fight against the likes of Pacquiao.
Pacquiao fighting Guerrero would be a lateral move from his recent win over Brandon Rios. There’s no real difference between Guerrero and Rios other than Guerrero being taller and more accomplished. But it would be the same type of fight matching a slow guy against a much faster one.

Andre Dirrell calls out Golovkin and Froch

gennady golovkin carl froch andre dirrell By Scott Gilfoid: Super middleweight contender Andre Dirrell (21-1, 14 KO’s) is ready to get back in the ring after dealing with some problems for the past 10 months, and he wants to fight both Gennady Golovkin and Carl Froch if can get them in the ring. Dirrell say Golovkin mentioned his name recently, and he badly wants to get the 5’10″ in the ring to fight him.
Dirrell fought Golovkin twice in the amateurs and had a 1-1 record against him. However, Dirrell thinks he should have been given the decision in the fight he lost against him.
As for Froch, Dirrell already fought him in 2009 and boxed well enough to deserve a wide decision. The judges, however, scored the fight for Froch. As most people already know, the fight took place in Froch’s home city of Nottingham, UK. Dirrell’s ready to school Froch a second time.
Dirrell said to the Boxing Channel “Golovkin, I’m calling you out. If you want to see me, I’m here. Froch. I want all the foreigners. Hopefully, Golovkin will come up to 168 to fight me because I’m not going down to 160. I heard him call my name out. I believe it’s my time, 2014 and up.”
I’d like nothing better than to see Dirrell try to avenge his controversial defeat at the hands of Froch and see whether he could give him a royal whipping like he did last time they fought. I think Froch may have lost his nerve after his close call fight against George Groves. I think Froch is going to play it safe from this point on. Dirrell would be all wrong for him, and I could never see Froch saying yes to that fight. Heck, even if Froch did say yes, I could see his promoter Eddie Hearn overruling him and saying how Dirrell is all wrong for him.
Dirrell would give Golovkin huge headaches with his hand speed, as well as his incredible defensive skills. I could definitely see Dirrell beating him by a wide decision, because Golovkin is too short and he moves too slowly in the ring. We saw recently how Curtis Stevens gave Golovkin, and that guy was only 5’7″. Now imagine would happen if you put the 6’2″ Dirrell in there with Golovin. I think school would be in session for that fight, and Golovkin would be reduced to that of a pupil.
Golovkin (28-0, 25 KO’s) has a meaningless title defense against little known Osumanu Adama (22-3, 16 KO’s) on February 1st at the Salle des etoiles, Monte Carlo, Monaco. Golovkin would be so much better off facing Dirrell at 168 rather than facing Adama in a mismatch in Monaco.
Andre Dirrell witnessed his brother Anthony Dirrell fighting to a 12 round draw against WBC super middleweight champion Sakio Bika last Saturday. You could see the competitive spirit in Andre’s eyes when he was giving Anthony instructions in between rounds. Andre looked like he wants to climb in the ring and take over for Anthony at one point. Malignaggi: Broner-Maidana are fighting for the belt that belongs to me

Broner Maidana Broner vs. Maidana paulie malignaggi marcos rene maidana adrien broner By Dan Ambrose: Paulie Malignaggi thinks he should be the one that is fighting Marcos Maidana (34-3, 31 KO’s) this Saturday night, not WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) in their fight at the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas, USA. Malignaggi still thinks he was robbed of a decision in his 12 round split decision loss to Broner last June in Brooklyn, New York.
It was a close fight that could have gone either way, but Malignaggi is convinced that he did more than enough to have retained his WBA 147 lb. title, which he lost in that fight. Malignaggi now wants to fight the winner of the Broner-Maidana fight, and he feels that he deserves to fight the winner.
“They’re [Broner-Maidana] are fighting for the belt that belongs to me,” Malignaggi said to RingTV. “It shouldn’t have been me and Zab Judah…It should have been me and Marcos Maidana, because he was the mandatory for the WBA title. and I should still be the champion. The belt belongs to me.”
I’d prefer not to see Malignaggi inserted back into the picture to fight the Broner vs. Maidana. There needs to be some new blood mixed in. What we don’t want is to see Malignaggi playing musical chairs with Broner in fighting him over and over again, and disagreeing with the decision each time he loses to him. The fact that Malignaggi lost to Broner means he should get back in line and fight for the right to get another title shot at the belt.
I don’t consider Malignaggi’s win over a shot-looking Zab Judah as being enough to get Malignaggi another title shot. Judah is a light welterweight, not welterweight, and he was coming off of a loss to Danny Garcia. To get another title shot at the WBA belt, Malignaggi should have to face WBA interim 147 lb. champion Keith Thurman before he gets a crack at the title again. We can’t have Thurman bypassed by Malignaggi without getting his own shot, because Thurman earned his way to the #1 spot by beating previously undefeated Diego Chaves.
Golden Boy Promotions don’t seem to be in a big hurry to put Thurman in with Broner for some reason. It could be that they have some concern about whether Broner could handle the big punching Thurman. If that’s the case then they need to have Broner vacate the title because you can’t have a guy holding a belt that isn’t going to face the interim champion. Golden Boy needs to point Malignaggi towards Thurman so at least it’s fair to Thurman instead of Malignaggi getting an automatic rematch after beating a way past his past Judah.

TMZ CONFIRMS FIGHTHYPE REPORT: MANNY PACQUIAO SOCKED BY IRS FOR $18 MILLION

Last week, FightHype.com reported that sources had informed us that the Internal Revenue Service [IRS] recently placed a levy in the amount of $18.5 million on bank accounts owned by multi-division world champion Manny Pacquiao. Earlier today, TMZ confirmed that report when they revealed that they had obtained official documents proving that Pacquiao failed to pay taxes from 2006 to 2010 in the amount of $18,313,668.79.
According to TMZ, the yearly breakdown is as follows:
2006 -- $1,160,324.30
2007 -- $2,035,992.50
2008 -- $2,862,437.11
2009 -- $8,022,915.87
2010 -- $4,231,999.01
When Pacquiao's adviser, Michael Koncz, was questioned about the story that ran on FightHype.com, he simply replied, "We do not owe $18 million." Interestingly enough, Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, claimed just last month that Pacquiao's taxes in the United States had indeed been paid. "For each of Manny's fights that occurred in the United States, including those in 2008 and 2009, Top Rank withheld 30 percent of Manny's purses and paid those monies directly to the Internal Revenue Service via electronic funds transfer," Arum told Dan Rafael of ESPN.com roughly two weeks ago. "Top Rank has deposit confirmations for each payment. Top Rank has done the same for all U.S. endorsements it has facilitated on Manny's behalf."
For whatever, it looks like the IRS disagrees with Bob Arum's recollection of events. FightHype.com also learned that a lien was recently placed on one of Pacquiao's properties in Los Angeles, California. This latest news only adds to the growing financial turmoil that the 8-division world champion is currently dealing with.

It's obvious he couldn't get it done right the first time," stated undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd "Money" Mayweather, who recently shared his thoughts on the possibility of a potential clash with Manny Pacquiao. As far as Mayweather is concerned, Pacquiao's lopsided unanimous decision victory over Brandon Rios isn't enough to convince him that the multi-division world champion is fully recovered and ready to face the best fighter in the world.
"You know, like I said before, they were just talking about this guy needs to retire after he got knocked out. Now he comes and gets a win over Brandon Rios and they say, you know what, Pacquiao is back. You're going to get that in the sport of boxing. Like I said before, he's 1 and 2 in his last 3 fights, and my last 45 fights, I'm 45 and 0," Mayweather explained during a recent interview with radio host Kelly Mac in South Carolina. To Mayweather's point, most fans and media alike felt that Brandon Rios was handpicked because his style was tailor-made for Pacquiao, who was looking to rebound from his devastating knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez. While his performance was up to par against a fighter who looked one-dimensional, there are some, Floyd Mayweather being one of them, who question whether or not Pacquiao can deal with a more technical, counter-punching style.
"Once again, he's 1 and 2 in his last 3 fights. Let's make this make sense. You look at his pay-per-view numbers. Do your homework! You know, first you gotta do your homework. Look at my pay-per-view numbers, look at his pay-per-view numbers, and then you tell me what you come up with," Mayweather added, making reference to Pacquiao's lower than expected pay-per-view buys for his last bout. With less than 500,000 subscribers tuning in, Mayweather questions just how much public interest still exists for the fighting congressman of Sarangani.

ALFREDO ANGULO FRONTRUNNER TO FACE CANELO ALVAREZ ON MARCH 8?

Sources close to the information have informed us that jr. middleweight contender Alfredo Angulo is the frontrunner to face former jr. middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez when he makes his return to the ring on March 8 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Scheduled to headline his own pay-per-view card, Canelo was hoping to face fellow former jr. middleweight champion Miguel Cotto. Unfortunately for both Canelo and Golden Boy Promotions, Cotto appears more interested in challenging middleweight king Sergio Martinez in hopes of becoming Puerto Rico's first four-division world champion.
Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer recently told Boxingscene.com that he'll be meeting with Canelo this week to discuss backup plans. "I'm going to be seeing Canelo next week and we're going to talk about it in San Antonio. [Things will be clear next week] or the week after. I want to sit down with him, but obviously we don't want to wait," he explained before revealing that he has three potential opponents in mind. "Yes, Carlos Molina is one. That's what I'm going to talk to him about. But there are two others that I have in mind, that I frankly want to discuss with [trainer/manager] Chepo [Reynoso] and Canelo first before I talk about them [publicly]. There are three names and then it's going to be up to them to tell me which of the three names."
While we're sure Canelo and his team have the final say when it comes to opponent selection, according to one source, representatives for Angulo have already had serious discussions with Golden Boy Promotions about the March 8 bout. "They were in heavy talks just recently. He's in the running," one source commented. Considering that Canelo will be looking to rebound after his disappointing performance against undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather, Golden Boy Promotions would be wise to match him with a fan-friendly fighter like Angulo, especially considering that the bout will take place on pay-per-view. Though Schaefer has previously mentioned Erislandy Lara as a possible opponent, neither he nor Molina is the type of name that will bring the same type of box office success for Canelo as the all-action Alfredo Angulo.

While we're sure Canelo and his team have the final say when it comes to opponent selection, according to one source, representatives for Angulo have already had serious discussions with Golden Boy Promotions about the March 8 bout. "They were in heavy talks just recently. He's in the running," one source commented. Considering that Canelo will be looking to rebound after his disappointing performance against undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather, Golden Boy Promotions would be wise to match him with a fan-friendly fighter like Angulo, especially considering that the bout will take place on pay-per-view. Though Schaefer has previously mentioned Erislandy Lara as a possible opponent, neither he nor Molina is the type of name that will bring the same type of box office success for Canelo as the all-action Alfredo Angulo.
Canelo is not ducking Lara at all. He is not a champion so he can pick and choose whoever he wants, and fighting Angulo will be PPV worthy. But more than likely he will fight Molina cuz I don't think Molina is with GBP which means there is one less title shot for Canelo. Canelo has 3 ppv fights and Lara fight will be the second or third fight. They really want the Cotto fight. But if Canelo fights Angulo he will go for the early KO and add more interest for the Lara fight cuz everyone knows Lara will win in another boring fight not worth the ppv money
They don't expect canelo to draw 1 milli buys so he wont be a flop plus that's what they did for Canelo for taking the fight with Floyd, giving him ppv money. Ortiz is coming back down to 147 and fights in January so I honestly think he will fight Garcia, Malignaggi, Broner on the undercard for Floyd as no one wants to order Floyd vs Khan at $80. Showtime is trying to keep as many titles as they can on their side cuz if HBO starts getting them than the whole investing on Floyd turns into shits.
i agree ortiz will be on the undercard of mayweather/khan he was suppose to be on the mayweather/canelo card but pulled out to do the movie. ortiz vs anyone of goldenboy's 147's is an excited fight broner vs ortiz or garcia vs ortiz as the co-main event? fireworks.
