shatter uses co2 to extract the thc not butane. its generally regarded as cleaner and therefore better than bho, but it also takes like a straight pharmaceutical grade lab with $180,000 equipment so its pretty rare unless you have some access to top tier medical dispensaries. at least true shatter does i heard people figured out how to whip oil with nitrogen or something to get similar results

You can make shatter using butane as a solvent.
