Mayweather Canelo Mayweather vs. Canelo saul alvarez floyd mayweather jr By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Sr., the trainer and father of unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s), says he’s really hoping that the rumors of WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) planning on using a lot of movement against Mayweather Jr. in their fight on September 14th are true, because he thinks Canelo gets tired when he tries to use a lot of movement in his fights.
Mayweather Sr. said to esnewsreporting.com “We want him [Canelo] to move, because when he moves too much, he gets tired, and when he gets tired, we going to whip his a**! Floyd is smarter, quicker, faster and more knowledgeable than Canelo…Floyd ain’t going to get hit. He’s going to hit you.”
I’m in full agreement with Mayweather Sr. about Canelo getting tired when he tries to move around the ring. I won’t be surprised if he’s foolish enough to try that against Mayweather, because he seems to be the under the impression that he can change his fighting style to box with Mayweather Jr. It won’t be in the best interest for Canelo to try and use movement, because he turns red-faced and gasses out even when he’s fighting in his normal slow, plodding, flat-footed fighting style.
If Canelo tries to change that style by using movement to match what Mayweather Jr. is doing, Canelo is going to gas out, and need to retreat to the ropes for a 2 minute breather like he was doing against Austin Trout last April. The 170+ pound Canelo isn’t built to move around the ring.
Canelo has a short, wrestler type of body that’s not made for any kind of movement. Canelo is built for one thing and one thing only – to slug it out against a stationary opponent. If you put him in the ring and ask him to move, he’s going to gas out after 1 or 2 rounds, and be totally useless.
That’s why he’s going to lose badly to Mayweather Jr. on September 14th, because he won’t be standing there in front of Canelo like the guys that Golden Boy has matched the red-haired Canelo up against during his career.
To fight at a high level you need to have a good cardiovascular system, and Canelo doesn’t have the same system that Mayweather Jr. has. Canelo can do well in this fight, but only if Mayweather Jr. stops in his tracks and fights him without moving around the ring for 12 rounds.
Canelo would then be able to use his 20 pound weight advantage to beat Mayweather. But Mayweather Jr. isn’t going to do that against the light heavyweight sized Canelo. He’s going to force Canelo to move in order to wear him down, and it’s going to work 100 percent
