Is there a good way to manage your favorites, instead of just making another long list were all the tv shows, music and stuff are just random put in?

This really doesn't work well for me. My raspberry pi with XBMC is so laggy just navigating around the controls. Takes 30 seconds in-between every menu click. Opening streams and loading links takes atleast 5 minutes or so.
I'm using a class 10 card and wired network. I've tried to do some research but there isn't a lot of information on getting it to work faster. Any suggestions?
