I think if Broner uses any sort of footwork, he's got him. I watched that Paulie/Broner fight again and Broner was being touched a lot but that's probably mostly because Paulie can't punch. His reflexes are really good. I still think that a dude that can take Broner's punches and keep coming all night with effective aggression and power will beat him. Wouldn't be surprised at all if Maidana was that guy, I just don't expect him to win that fight. I'd like to see it happen though. Not surprised either if Broner bitches out of it. He's calling out Matthysse now all the sudden that's he's signed on to fight Garcia? Bitch stuff right there

Maidana ain't the guy, he's perfect for broner. A guy that can move, box and has power at 147 will beat him. Keith Thurman is that guy. (Floyd, Pac, Marquez, Bradley as well).

I'd probably favor Matthysse at 140 just because his power is freakish but could be tricky for him to land flush on Broner.

I forgot about that fight actually but Broner couldnt even hurt Paulie really and i know Maidana hits harder then that even if he isn't that good at 147. Broner isn't built for 147 either so this fight makes a lot of sense

Of course Broner runs his mouth after Matthysse signs to fight someone else. Whoever fights Broner needs to KO him to win. Because he is a crossover star who now raps he will be coddled by judging, which we saw in his last fight when he threw like 2 punches a round and somehow won

AMIR KHAN "LOOKING AT OPPONENTS"; UNSURE IF HE'LL FACE DEVON ALEXANDER IN DECEMBER

"We are looking at December 7 for my next fight and looking at opponents," stated former jr. welterweight champion Amir Khan, who recently revelaed that he's considering others opponents for his anticipated return to the ring this December. Up until this point, many assumed that a potential clash between Khan and IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander was a given considering that it was Khan himself who wanted and asked for the fight. Furthermore, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer recently traveled to Dubai to meet with investors, who were reportedly interested in staging the event. That, however, was nearly two weeks ago, and so far, there's been no word from Schaefer on whether or not Dubai is still in the running to host the fight. Now, it appears that plans are changing for Khan, whose team has long been hoping to secure a mega-fight with undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather.

"I have tried to get Devon Alexander. It was looking promising. He said he wanted to fight at the start and now it slowly seems that he is not 100 percent sure about it, coming up with excuses...Even if it's not in Dubai, I will fight him in America, I will fight him wherever," Khan explained in a recent interview with Sky Sports, questioning Alexander's desire to fight. "It's all about moving to that big fight against Floyd Mayweather...Hopefully getting this win against Alexander will get me into that fight," he continued.

For whatever reason, Khan is of the opinion that Alexander is unwilling to face him, despite the fact that Alexander's trainer, Kevin Cunnigham, has repeatedly stated that they're more than willing to give him a shot at the title any time and any place, including Dubai, provided the money is right. It seems odd, however, that Khan would question Alexander's desire to face him when, thus far, negotiations have yet to even begin for the bout. As previously stated, Richard Schaefer has been in Dubai for the past two weeks to assess the feasibility of even staging the bout there. Furthermore, just this past Wednesday, Cunningham reiterated their desire for the fight even though they had yet to receive any word from adviser Al Haymon, or Schaefer for that matter, regarding the status.

"I haven't heard anything. I haven't spoken to Al [Haymon] recently about that particular fight, but it's a fight that Devon wants. He definitely wants to fight Amir Khan. It's a fight that Amir Khan is telling everybody that he wants. You know, if Al and Richard want to make that fight happen, it's gonna happen, and I got a good feeling that the fight will take place," Cunningham explained during his appearance on FightHype Radio. "He [Khan] wants a shot at the title and Devon's ready to oblige him. We're just waiting on Al to get back to us and we're ready."

Given Cunnigham's statements, it appears that Khan is receiving bad information regarding a potential clash with Alexander. Either that or Team Khan is simply making it appear as though Team Alexander doesn't want the fight while they themselves explore other options. Word on the street is that, assuming all goes well on September 14, Khan could be next in line to face Floyd Mayweather. After his less-than-stellar performance against Julio Diaz in his last bout, there were whispers that Khan's team was looking for a "soft touch" who will allow him to better showcase his talents. In fact, just yesterday, FightHype.com received word that future Hall of Famer Shane Mosley was one of the names under consideration for the December 7 bout. When we reached out to Khan regarding that news, he simply replied, "No bro; first I've heard."

Either way, with no word yet from Richard Schaefer on how things are progressing in Dubai, it looks like no news could be bad news for a potential Alexander vs. Khan showdown. Be sure to check back soon for more details as this story unfolds.

Secondly, we have yet to see any proposal in reference to a Khan fight, so when Khan steps out here with this bullcrap that Devon's making excuses and trying to get out of a fight with him, how is that when we've never been offered a fight," stated world-class trainer Kevin Cunningham, who responded to recent comments made by former jr. welterweight champion Amir Khan alleging that IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander is reluctant to face him. As far as Cunningham and Team Alexander are concerned, a clash with Khan is still a possibility, but they have yet to receive any type of proposal for the potential bout.

"Devon would love to check Khan's chin, but there is no deal on the table as of yet. Khan and his dad was reported saying that a deal in Dubai was 90% done. Well, Al has yet to come to me with any type of deal, so I find that hard to believe," Cunningham explained. "Devon has never ducked anybody. He's faced the biggest punchers in the division - Urango, Matthysse, Maidana and Bailey - so why would he duck a glass jaw con job like Amir? Team Khan has this arrogance and sense of entitlement attitude, but like I said before, they don't dictate shit over here."

As previously stated in an earlier aticle on FightHype, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has been in Dubai for the past two weeks reportedly meeting with investors to discuss the possibility of staging the event. Although there's been no word yet on how those discussions have gone, Khan seems eager to move forward with other options despite the fact that Alexander is still willing to defend his IBF welterweight title against the unranked challenger [note: though Amir Khan is not ranked by the IBF, he is ranked #2 by the WBC, whose welterweight champion is Floyd Mayweather]. "Khan has said Devon ducked him at 140; we were never offerd a fight with Khan at 140. Now he's saying Devon doesn't want the fight. Hey Amir, you and your daddy need to stop fucking around and sign the damn contract so Devon can check your chin and make you do the St. Louis boogaloo," Cunningham added. "Rumor has it that Team Khan is trying to find a softer touch, so maybe this is his excuse to get out of the Alexander fight."

My 1 main grievance with most everyone of the usual posters, is none of you factor in growth and development. Give these young guys a chance to be tested, lose a few rounds or maybe even a fight, and actually learn from it. Broner and these come up cats are LEARNING. Blame the Networks for making them seem like established pros.

Stevens got some power but I don't think that win should get him a title shot just yet. The best fight for Golovkin is the Geale vs Barker winner later this month. That would be a unification bout and obviously both of those guys are much more proven, especially Geale. However if Geale wants to duck again, then make the Stevens fight.

Any title holder vs. GGG needs to be made asap. I don't want to see him vs. anyone who isn't a titleholder. I like watching him fight, a lot. But I don't want to hear how great he is until he gets in there with the champs that are out there. I know there are things barring that and it's not his fault, there have just been a ton of champs in history to obliterate contenders then lose to the elite. (Yes 2-0-sixx, I know Macklin beat sturm but was robbed lol)

Chris Arreola and Seth Mitchell a done deal for September 6th in Indio, California

Arreola Mitchell Arreola vs. Mitchell seth mitchell chris arreola By Dan Ambrose: A heavyweight match-up between #3 WBC, Chris Arreola (35-3, 30 KO’s) and #2 WBC, Seth Mitchell (26-1-1, 19 KO’s) is now official for September 6th at the Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio, California, USA. This should be a good, fast scrape that will probably end with a quick knockout.

The undercard has two fights that are slated to be televised, but they may need a third because Arreola-Mitchell has 1st round knockout written all over it. Mitchell is out of his class in this fight, and will probably be taken out in the 1st round.

The fight will be shown on Showtime with Rafael Marquez fighting Efrain Esquivas on the televised portion of the undercard. Also televised will be welterweight Josesito Lopez fighting Aaron Martinez.

Arreola is coming off of a 12 round unanimous decision defeat to Bermane Stiverne last April in a fight where Arreola suffered a broken nose. He fought a really dumb fight by walking straight into Stiverne’s shots all night long without having the tools to compete with him.

Arreola ended up getting knocked down in the 3rd round and pummeled for the remaining 9 rounds of the fight. Arreola’s trainer should have wised up early and had the fight stopped because Arreola ended up being a big punching bag for Stiverne.

If Arreola didn’t look too much from the beating he took in that fight, then he should be able to stop Mitchell in the 30 to 60 seconds of the fight. Mitchell can’t seem to take a punch worth anything. He was stopped by Johnathon Banks last November in the 2nd round.

Banks isn’t much of a puncher at heavyweight, but Mitchell made him look like Mike Tyson. In their rematch last June, Mitchell was badly hurt in the 1st round and ready to be knocked out again but Banks stopped punching for the rest of the fight, and Mitchell was able to escape get the victory in one of the oddest fights you’ll ever see.

While it was a beautiful KO, lets keep in mind here that dude Stevens KOd has been KOd 7 times. So he's a fringe journeyman.

Stevens lost to Jessie Brinkley, a journeyman fighter not long ago. Now I do like how Stevens went down in weight, got rid of unnecessary muscle and he looks better at 160 thus far, but I'd like to see him fight a guy in the top 10, hell top 25, before I really know how good is power is. A couple years ago I completely wrote this guy off, so beating a couple journeyman hasn't really told me anything yet.

While that's true Golovkin is a bit unique because his amateur credentials are phenomenal, beating top guys like Andre Dirrell, Bute, Geale, Andy Lee, etc, so we already know he's faced just about every style and won in the past (his record was about 300-5).

I guess they are finally making some changes to the amateurs. From what I heard they might remove headgear if you have 10+ fights. Your first fight is only 1 minute rounds. Not sure if that's always been that way? Are they still looking at paying amateur fighters?

The thing with Golovkin is he fought with a pro style of fighting, which is tough to be success in the amateurs since it's all about scoring points and playing tag. To me that speaks volumes of his skills.

Yeah there changing it. No more headgear, no more stupid counting puch point system, will be 10 point must rounds just like the pros.

There is an amateur league where guys get paid. Something like 60k a year or something. It's essentially pro fighting, no headgear. It's like the minor leagues for boxing almost its awesome way of getting guys ready for the pros faster. That Ukrainian legend fighter, 350-1 record, who's turning pro in a couple months will try to get a title shot in his second fight. He was in this league and because the opponents are so highly skilled he'll be ready that quick, imo.
