Sorry but mom and pop gamestores are going to go away along with GameStop within the next 10 years IMO. This move by MS was only done with the knowledge that Sony was on board. You guys want Steam like sales? Guess what...you need the game companies to have any flexibility on prices which isn't going to happen while you cling to your vinyl records. This whole thing would have been a lot smoother if Sony just didn't pussy out at the last second and piss off A LOT of companies in the process. Instead Sony threw GameStop a lifesaver while Reddit circlejerked about how stupid MS was (nevermind how much reddit hates GameStop). The developers WANT to move towards a digital format so they can control the prices while at the same time having the majority of the profit go to them, not having some shit company like GameStop undercutting them constantly.
All this move by Sony did was make it HARDER for the small developers to make it in the game. This won't effect EA at all..which by the way only did away with the online passes because both MS and Sony were on board with this DRM issue. It wasn't because (as some said) they realized the consumer didn't like them. EA doesn't give a single fuck what reddit thinks or any of their customers, this has been proven. You know what else has been proven? Sony doesn't give a single fuck about you or anyone else either. It is fucking laughable that so many people on reddit seem to think that Sony is some fucking white knight here. No, Sony set back the utopian idea that reddit always wants (Steam like sales and digital downloads all the time but on consoles) about 6 years. You know why they did it? Not because of the consumer, but because they saw a way to get the leg up on MS after they fuckin' screwed the pooch with the PS3. PS3 is a great fuckin' console and the 360's were notoriously breaking..yet it took them until now to finally catch up with MS. Now was their time to fuck them back...and they did it at the expense of all the small gaming companies and made enemies with a lot of big ones. They have done a disservice to you guys as gamers. MS fucked up with the 'connect every 24 hours' bullshit, but MS was trying to move you to your precious Steam.
Instead, you get the same shit. $70 games, big publishers like EA making the majority and they don't give a shit about you, and the small developers struggling to make ends meet because they are losing money on manufacturing, shipping, GameStop, etc folding up because they can't pay their bills. Can't wait for the next reddit post to hit the front page where some major studio we all grew up with announces they are closing their doors.
But yeah....Fuck MS for trying to screw the consumer! Sony totally is looking out for us and has built a console FOR gamers! They totally didn't tell studios they were following suit with MS only to stab them in the back after MS announced and they saw the reaction.
Don't forget everyone.... Sony Releases New Stupid Piece Of Shit That Doesn't Fucking Work
Yeah, this is a long fucking rant. I'm just pissed because I am standing up for my friend who works for a major studio who got really fucked by Sony doing this. They had big hopes for the whole gaming experience to move towards what goes on with PC's while bringing more money for the studios instead of everyone else when the margins are already razor thin....then Sony fucked them. His company due to this essentially has severed a long long long term relationship they had with Sony.
