Yea Australia is really expensive to live, i run into American tourists a lot and they all complain how Australia is way too expensive, from food to everything else.
To answer your question, it depends but generally it'll be about $2000 per month for an average one, and then on from there.
Also, our dollar is equal to the US $ so we're comparing apples with apples too.
