Stewart Copeland is the best drummer alive and I'm not even that big of a fan of The Police. Collins, Peart, and Grohl are all really great drummers though but in pretty different ways from each other and even in comparison to Copeland.
Peart is the best alive and maybe the best of all time... only guys that could fuck with him were John Bonham or Keith Moon in my opinion....

yep... you no concur doc?
I like Grohl, and was/am a huge nirvana fan, but I never thought of him as a great drummer. Great all around musician maybe, but he never seemed that technically proficient on the drums. Neil Pert, I definately agree with, even though I don't like Rush.

Yeah it's all opinions and I just prefer his style, and personally think, Copeland is better than any of the ones you just listed. That said there are quite a few jazz drummers that blow any of them out of the water and I really don't even like jazz much at all.

Rolling Stone agrees with me, its all a matter of opinion though...

Rolling Stones: 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time
I'm not going to argue anyone on that list being a legend and highly influential, or even their positions on the list really. That said Rolling Stone has been stuck in the 70s, well since the 70s.

Sometimes outside of the great articles they tend to do outside of music I don't know how they are still even around.
