Owning and controlling are different. You paint a rosy view of his influence on the media. I disagree that anyone but him have benefitted from his reforms in that area.
He may have been a "champion of the people" like you say. I doubt it but it doesn't even matter. What matters is that his socialist policies will ultimately fail when they collapse under their own weight. Soon the country will no longer be able to afford the freebies. The people will get used to being coddled from cradle to grave and they'll lose any incentive to be independently successful. Entrepreneurs, investors, and business people will flee to countries with freer markets. The economy will tank as businesses disappear and dependence on government will continue to increase.
