Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and--if he has his way--every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It's enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop...except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O'Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen's world apart. "Gangster Squad" is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD's efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time

love the cast...saw giovanni ribisi in there too...this is definitely my kinda movie but i hope it stays true to the time period and setting.
I'm pretty sure they'll do a good job with that, all of the set photos and now the trailer have been pretty consistent with the period and they filmed in actual locations in LA for the most part.

My thoughts are as such;

Great cast, Sean Penn looks to play a dope character.

If this movie centers around how "awesome" these cops are (ie. are these cops the actual "Gangster Squad"?) then this film could really suck, especially if they shadow Penn and his goons. I think this is really critical. Because at the start of this trailer I got really excited for the movie. As it progressed and it started showing cops kicking doors down and beating the shit out of everyone in sight, I started to lose interest really fast. I don't care how "true" it actually was. For better or for worse, people don't want to see super-cops beating down the mafia in movies, and not even Gosling can change that.

The rap music really did kill it, there's no denying that. I'm really hoping it was just the trailer and won't be in the movie.

Will definitely watch this movie, there's no doubt about that. I don't know if I will see it in theaters, though; I still haven't been since The Tree of Life. Maybe if there are good enough reviews.

Yea that Jay-Z song deaded the end of the trailer man...they needed some of that 60's big band shit playin

I disagree tho about the cop angle killin it. I think they will equally hype Cohen and this police "Gangster Squad" and they will hype it up throughout the movie like a prize fight culminating in a knock out. I forget how Mickey Cohen died in real life. I know bugsy siegel got his issue in his old lady's house after fuckin up everyone's money buildin the Tropicana or the Flamingo or whatever it was

Ryan Gosling is doing this thing right now, but what's up with his gay ass voice in this movie? When I heard it I thought he was supposed to be one of those mobsters with a high pitched voice but he's a cop? Doesn't really work for me.

Looks legit though. I plan to check it out.

Looks bad.

Bad meaning bad not bad meaning good.

What a shitty trailer. Looks like it should be for a film with half the cast being rappers and a tag line "from the so and so of Training Day".

Just finished watching this movie and it was off the hook..... Definitely worth watching if you like mobster flicks, Sean Penn played mobster Micky Cohen to a tee. Great mob movie, acting, action and kept the story thru to the timeline! Most def going to buy this one when its released on dvd/blu ray

Looks good but agree with Ryan goslings high pitched voice I could see it being annoying through the whole movie. And yeah the jay z song in the trailer doesn't fit at all with the time period. Sean Penn to me hasn't disappointed since Fast Times, he's one of the most versatile actors of my time. All round good cast. For some reason though when I watch the trailer it reminds me of Dick Tracy with Sean Penns makeup looking like the makeup they used on Al Pacino
