That's why the countries in Europe get invaded every other weekend, because the people don't have guns...:chinese:
Thats a whole different continent and doesn't have anything to do with USA getting invaded by enemies.

I would rather be able to defend my self instead of relying on the police and military to protect me.

Again, does your wish to be able to defend yourself, or rather to THINK that you are able to defend yourself, outweigh the negative consequences of everyone having ready access to guns?

It doesn't matter if they have access to guns or not, somebody could just run up in somebodies house with a machete or any other object that could be used as a deadly weapon.

It's a wasted argument on these morons breh... They don't understand that the 2nd amendment protects all the other amendments. It was actually put into our constitution for that soul purpose.

They are on the bandwagon of the anti-gun "mob mantality." Our government will only keep taking rights away until its to late to do anything about it and these stupid fucks will wonder "what happened?"

You and i both know that an assualt weapon ban will do nothing to curb these events and after the next one happens they'll blame it on whatever firearms are left.

I know this administration has been waiting for an event like this to put their plan into motion. It was going to happen sooner or later. They just needed a springboard and they got it! Hook line and sinker, these retards believe whatever the media tells them and there is no convincing them otherwise. They don't listen to statistics or facts they just want immediate action and thats why the government is rushing into legislation as we speak to capitalize on this tragedy before anyone has a chance to consider the repercussions.

You're wasting you breath, these guys are on their anti-gun high horse on the "Number 1 gangsta rap source." lol if that ain't hipocrisy i don't know what is?

Again, something I said above - why is it that they very people who are the most crazy about guns, are also the ones who have provided the political support for the encroachment on civil rights over the last 10-15 years? You have not addressed that, you're just parroting right-wing sounbites

You and i both know that an assualt weapon ban will do nothing to curb these events and after the next one happens they'll blame it on whatever firearms are left.
We're not talking about an assault weapon ban here, we're talking about the need to do what Japan and many European countries have done.

There were plenty of statistics and fact given in this and the other thread. Like the one about gun violence deaths in Japan vs those in the US. We have seen no statistics in support of your position yet

You're wasting you breath, these guys are on their anti-gun high horse on the "Number 1 gangsta rap source." lol if that ain't hipocrisy i don't know what is?
LOL at anyone who thinks gangsta rap has to be about glorifying the gun culture or that those who listen to it should be of the same mentality as the some deranged members of the NRA

Honestly, I think a lot of people want guns to protect themselves FROM our government as much as anything else. That's why they are crazy paranoid about losing the right to bear arms, at least most of the gun owners I know share that sentiment. Maybe it's an Oklahoma thing, but there are people with arsenals and bunkers out in the boondocks in case the government tries to make that motion to take guns away for real. Silly as it may sound.

And about what I said earlier, guns isn't the end-all solution. Owning or not owning guns doesn't curb violence. America spends like 6 times more than any other country per year on their military/defense. That's what's really keeping people from trying to invade the U.S. but you'd have to be kinda stupid to invade the U.S. for the fact that there are so many gun owners here as well. Same thing with Canada. Even if they weren't neighbors with the U.S., they'd be a stupid country to try and invade too

This thread is full of pussies...

Yall let the media scare you into anything...look if you dont like guns or anything else the media tells you to fear then stay in your house behind your locked doors and live your life in fear...but this shit dont scare me...I got 3 kids all in school and never worried before or after about this shooting if they are safe...

These mass shooting are very rare but will never be stopped...go ahead put a national ban on assualt rifles...pass all the gun laws you pussies want to make you feel better cuz it for sure aint gonna make you more safe

The only thing that will make you people safe from guns would be to confiscate the 250,000,000 plus regestered guns out there, then after you pull that miracal off you would have to some how find the other 250,000,000 unregestered guns and collect those too

yeah good luck on making us all safe you guys are really gonna make a difference...smfh

california and washington dc already have the most strict gun laws in the us and it has nothing to stop gun violence....fuck mexico has one gun store for the whole country and gun laws are way more stict then our and has done nothing to make their people more safe...they still blow america out the water when it comes to gun violence

point...make harsher laws criminals will continue to break...take all the guns away people will smuggle them in and criminals will buy them...guns are here on earth and there here to stay...passing these laws will do nothing but make you scarry poeple feel safe until the next mass shooting...but them what happens when people start making home made bombs and throw them into classrooms???

i mean seriously if someone is hell bent on killing a mass of people they will find a way guns or not...wake up

1. I have held the same position for many years. Where did the idea that the shooting (which is so not out of the usual in this country that if it wasn't kids that were killed and the number was a little bit smaller, it would not have been paid that much attention) has scared us???

2. We're not actually talking about gang violence here even if that's a major proportion of the gun violence deaths. Yes, those people will find ways to get guns (it will still reduce their number among them though). Japan can ban all guns and be reasonably successful in implementing it because it's an island and does not have a large failing state on its southern border where things can be easily smuggled from. The important thing here is that the kind of situations that just happened will be much much more difficult to develop if there was a complete ban on guns. I have yet to see a mass shooting of kids perpetrated by a gang member - this is usually done by depressed middle class white people. It would also eliminate a lot of the murder-suicides that are limited to the family, and almost all of the accidental deaths (which number in the hundreds every year).

Were pussies for having an opinion? How unamerican of us!

The only ones that are "scared" are those going out to buy MORE guns becuase a) they fear their kids arent safe now and b) they think gun laws will kick in and they are ready for a fight.

Mass shootings are UP, in case you haven't noticed. And its a completely different ballgame when 7 year olds are getting shot. But, you're right...this has less to do with GUNS, and more to do with mental health in general. We could talk all day about WHY these are happening, but we just DONT have a concrete answer at the moment. Theories, yes...many.

The only thing that will make you people safe from guns would be to confiscate the 250,000,000 plus regestered guns out there, then after you pull that miracal off you would have to some how find the other 250,000,000 unregestered guns and collect those too
Not going to happen. The government isnt that naive.

california and washington dc already have the most strict gun laws in the us and it has nothing to stop gun violence....fuck mexico has one gun store for the whole country and gun laws are way more stict then our and has done nothing to make their people more safe...they still blow america out the water when it comes to gun violence
Washington state or DC? Its fairly easy to get a gun here. I can walk into walmart and by a rifle right now. I can buy a handgun now and get it in 5 days after purchased, as long as i dont have a criminal history. eazy peezy.

point...make harsher laws criminals will continue to break...take all the guns away people will smuggle them in and criminals will buy them...guns are here on earth and there here to stay...passing these laws will do nothing but make you scarry poeple feel safe until the next mass shooting...but them what happens when people start making home made bombs and throw them into classrooms???
While i tend to agree, its only because we live in a country that PROMOTES violence. Its on TV ALL THE TIME. Cartoons, movies, and the news. All day and all night. We are a country and culture, OBSESSED with violence. Its quite sick, actually. And we wonder why every other damn country hates us...we are bullies, and we RAISE our children to be the same, albiet subconsciously.

i mean seriously if someone is hell bent on killing a mass of people they will find a way guns or not...wake up
Again, agreed. One only has to look at the guy who killed 70+ people in Norway a couple of years ago. However, when was the last time it happened before then?

The rate of firearms-related murders in 2011 was 3.2 per 100,000 people. In 1993 the rate of firearms-related murders was 6.6 per 100,000 people. The number of firearms-related murder victims dropped from more than 17,000 in 1993 to 9,903 in 2011.

Again facts being ignored by anti-gun morons but like i said it's wasted breath because none of yall are trying to hear that shit.

I know the rather simple concept that multiple factors can be behind a single number and not all of them need to change the same way over time is foreign to the people displaying the kind of simple-minded black-and-white view of the world that you have been so far, but this is just too much,

The early 90s were the height of gang violence caused by the crack epidemic. Since then that has greatly decreased (which has coincided and probably is to a certain extent behind certain changes in the music which is the main subject of this board). Why it has decreased is a huge topic on its own - New York is the best example, there have been many good articles on the subject, like this one:

How New York City Beat Crime: Scientific American

On the other hand, mass shooting in which some lunatics picks up a readily available automatic weapon and guns down a dozen people or so, have been on the rise. To the point that there is one such attempt every other day, it's just that most do not result in 26 kindergarten kids dead so you don't hear about them in the news all the time (which is also because they are so common at this point that it's just not news)

It is those that we're talking about here.

Heres more FACTS for you to ignore...

Grant Duwe, a criminologist with the Minnesota Department of Corrections who has written a history of mass murders in America, said that while mass shootings rose between the 1960s and the 1990s, they actually dropped in the 2000s. And mass killings actually reached their peak in 1929, according to his data. He estimates that there were 32 in the 1980s, 42 in the 1990s and 26 in the first decade of the century.

Chances of being killed in a mass shooting, he says, are probably no greater than being struck by lightning.

Still, he understands the public perception - and extensive media coverage - when mass shootings occur in places like malls and schools. "There is this feeling that could have been me. It makes it so much more frightening."
