Listening to obama now, it seems you guys will be headed down the path of gun control.

It's fucked up I know, but before gun control we had 13 massacres, after it, 0.

Good luck to obama disarming america though lol.

Thoughts?

he cant and wont. If America wanted gun control, they should have done it when they were singing the damn declaration, not after centuries of minor restrictions and policies. And how hypocritical would we look as the number supplier of guns to the world, yet citizens arent allowed to? Cant have your cake and eat it too.

thoughts:
the laws that would be created through any gun control measures will be followed by law abiding citizens
the people who shoot shit up completely disregard laws
the law abiding citizens will not be able to defend themselves when these said people who shoot shit up run up in their house to shoot shit up
that is all

Yup that is a downside. Do you believe there should be any restriction at all or leave it as is?

The genie has been let out of the bottle a long time ago. It's almost impossible to put it back in.

It will take a Soviet style confiscation of arms to impose gun control, however there is one huge difference and it is that when the Soviets were taking away things from the population between the wars, they were doing it on an unarmed population while in the US it is the very guns people have that need to be confiscated, and this is a recipe for disaster - as it is not only is there no shortage of people going on rampage shooting random victims, but there is a several orders of magnitude larger group of nominally sane people armed to the teeth whose biggest fear is that the government will come and take away their guns, and a lot of those won't let that happen without a fight. Given that fact, if I am part of whatever law enforcement agency is charged with taking guns away from people, my motivation to do my job well would not be very high

In other words, ain't gonna happen.

They may tighten up gun control a little with respect to things like background checks, number of bullets, etc., there is even a slight chance they may go after assault weapons, but the kind of general ban on guns that's needed is simply never going to happen

If China had the same gun laws like the US, you wouldn't hear about a guy killing 28 people, you would hear about fuckers killing 200+...the population would be below 1 billion in record time.
Regarding China - one interesting thing to note, and it is very telling, is that it seems like people have started going on rampage there only recently. This may, of course, be due to sampling bias, i.e. it was happening before, but the world was not globalized so it remains hidden for us. But it is reported as a novel trend at least judging from what I have seen.

And it seems to me that this coincides which Chinese society getting on the socioeconomic treadmill that Americans have been n for decades - work harder and harder, make more and more money, or you're a failure.

Don't see it happening anytime soon, might make the gun prices go up because people will buy more thinking it's about to happen. That's about it.

its funny how you guys equate gun control with removing all guns from the country. Lately what is talked about isnt retroactive and are measures to ban the future purchase of assault rifles and extended clips (i.e. anything that holds more than 10 bullets). Obama isnt after your guns. he received an F from the Brady foundation that rates presidents involvement in gun control.

Obama isn't after anything that would make this country and the world a better place to live.

It's a third and fourth Bush term basically.

I can't understand how so many people are unable to see it..

Too many unarmed sheep, thats the reason these massacres happened. Those teachers should have been armed, they were just sitting ducks and the shooter knew that.

The main problem is that too many people in public places are not allowed to carry a firearm.
Let's say teachers are armed.

How long before one of them kills the whole class?

Being a teacher is one of the more stressful and less rewarding jobs that there are, and it is only going to get worse in the future given the general downward trend in the intellectual level of each generation over recent decades and the concerted conservative attack on public education...
